I know what you are saying... I played through Mario64 and I have played many other games with similar control schemes. None of them are perfect though. I fell off many a ledge in mario and sonic. Not to mention almost everyone complains about camera controls in third person games...

All I'm saying is that it is not impossible to become acclimated to using a mouse and keyboard in a third person game.

I can understand console gamers liking this title as it looks utterly SHITE beyond belief. Why though is it coming to the ultimate gaming machine, the PC? We don't want it.

Not that I'm a console fan (I much prefer playing on PC) but it doesn't take a pretty game to be a fun game. There aren't as many games made these days that are as fun as A LOT of the old classic console games. They couldn't rely on graphics so they needed good fun "games" to sell, not just the latest flashy graphics.

People buying fancy looking, but utterly boring games, or basically the same game over and over with esentially just "the latest game engine" are the reason so many more are made.

No, I really haven't played games like that. 5 minutes with Mario 64 and I hated it. Mario Sunshine, though, was a lot more fun.

I still think you can do fine with the mouse for camera and the keyboard for movement. In fact, I think I've played games like that.

And you can absolutely zig and zag with the keyboard. Don't you zig and zag in Quake?

in fact the mouse works best when pointing (what a surprise, it's a pointing device!) is involved. so i use it in e.g. gta3 for the sniper weapons. i remember the prince of persia bashing thread a few days ago .... in fact prince of persia played great with dual analog joysticks, one for movement, one for camera, i didnt use the mouse once.

When you play Bloodrayne, you use a mouse to change your heading/rotation, right? In that case, the mouse is probably better.

In games that have the view independent from the character, and camera relative movement, mouse control isn't really an option. And keyboard controls only let you move in 4 or 8 directions (without zig-zagging). Almost no PC-only games have the view seperate form the camera, and also have camera relative movement. Maybe you haven't played many games like that?

Jensen, it is all relative... I did fine in Bloodrayne with a mouse and keyboard.

I don't think many of you would do very good at Mario 64 with a keyboard....
Gamepads are best with platform games that have camera relative movement.

I've never used a controller I like nearly as much as a keyboard and mouse.

Ok, exception goes to side scrollers like the NES or flight sims. But every other game, from 3rd person games to FPS to driving games, I prefer the keyboard and mouse. Even to a driving wheel...

It is not impossible to use the keyboard to fly the helicoptor in GTA:VC. I did it... However it was not easy, but after a while I got the hang of it.

in fact i use a console controller too. the ps2 dualshock 2 controller with 4 shoulder buttons and dual analog controllers. please dont tell me you play gta3 or gta3 vice city with mouse and keyboard ... e.g.: it's impossible to fly the helicopters without an analog joystick. every kind of 3rd person game with running and jumping profits to a great extent from a decent controller. all you guys that always played on pcs and never had an 2600, a c64 or a amiga seriously miss out.

i paid like 10 euros for the ps2 to usb adaptor and 12 for the ps2 gamepad on ebay. you cannot get a decent native pc controller for that price.

Anyone spend much time playing the Pitfall game for the NES?

Basically it was hoping over spiders and riding hot air balloons. I used to love it because there were so many places to explore and try to see, but it was pretty much entirely garbage.

gonna be a crap console port with bad controls and camera angles

One way to fix the bad controls is to port the controller to. I have an adapter so I can use my Gamecube controller with my PC. It worked great for the Prince of Persia demo. While keyboard and mouse control is the best for first person games,
Third person games benefit greatly from analog movement control.

Also, throw in some nazis and give Harry a whip to go along with the WWII theme.

Then again, Lucas/Speilberg may not like that too much....

I seriously doubt they'll do much to change it from the console versions either.

They should set it during WWII.
