EQ to Expand Again

Sony Online Entertainment Announces Omens of War Expansion for Everquest (thanks Frans) announces yet another expansion (the eighth?) for EverQuest, SOE's MMORPG. Word is: "This expansion will feature new high-level Epic weapons while raising the player level cap to level 70. EverQuest players will also enjoy a new visual appearance thanks to the use of the new next-generation graphics engine. EverQuest: Omens of War is scheduled to be available at retail and for digital download from Sony Online Entertainment for $29.99 in July." The EverQuest: Omens of War Website is already online.

Thanks, Jade will be showing at the Xbox booth (booth? it takes up half of the hall =). It will be nice to go to E3 for recreational purposes and not having to work a booth this year. This way I can actually see some of the other games.

there is a documentary film out right now, about a guy who decided he would eat nothing but McDonalds food for a month solid... and he chronicles what happens as he gains 40 lbs, and his kidneys start shutting down, his body becomes toxic, he starts vomiting at random times, etc. etc..... hehehe, the film is called "Supersize Me"

That thing is a farce. He ate ridiculous amounts of calories of the worst things on McDonalds menus which if you ate that many calories of healthy or hell any non fast food and did nothing but sit on your ass all the time would make you ridiculously fat and chronically sick from all the rapid weight gain.

"All things in moderation", usually covers it for video games, food, drink, etc.

MMORPGs are more like Snickers for the fatties. Whether it's stuffing too much fast food in their gaping mouths or playing EverQuest for 12 hours a day, all of these MMORPG rejects have one thing in common: they lack willpower and, most of all, dignity. Ever notice how often they equate the cost of playing EverQuest to the monthly cost of consuming one thing or another, usually food? In short, they are gluttonous consumer pigs who wallow in their own stink as they play with their digital Barbie dolls.

STOP FEEDING THE CORPORATE CASH MACHINE

Says Tacomodo as he sits at his manufactured desk, in his manufactured chair, looking at a monitor/flat panel displaying information coming from his computer and fed to it from his broadband connection.

Probably he's sipping an orange juice from some company which he brought at the local chain supermarket.

So pray tell how we should all stop feeding the corporate machine?

Folk can do whatever they want with their time and money, as long as they're not fucking with anyone else, but reasonable people can agree that derelict EQ junkies are nonetheless worthy of redicule regarding their "lifestyle choice" (or could they be born that way?).

Trust me, EQ = cheap.

Relative to various other forms of entertainment, OK, but we're not talking about hookers, skybox seating or a trip into orbit on a Russian rocket. Specifically relative to video games, there's never really been another game that's come close to costing so much. But there also aren't many games that have kept so many hooked for years, so as long as the juice still flows from the bottomless udders of Sony's hopeless fans, more power to 'em.

I have the game and all expansions installed.

2.8 Gig

That includes a bunch of non-game local files in sub directories. Not sure where you are getting 7 Gig from.

Well if people have the money to spend and get enjoyment out of it who am I to complain?

And honestly I have a feeling that EQ will do just fine once EQ2 comes out ala Diablo 1 and 2, as people will not have the system to run EQ2 or they don't want to start over, or enjoy EQ1. EQ2 is not just EQ1 with new graphics as they are revamping things and changing things, so my guess is the biggest flame wars will be around "screw this I'm going back to EQ1".

"50 months would be just over 4 years. So that's $250/year. About 21 bucks a month. $5 a month. For a game some people are playing 30 hours + a week. Cheap - have you seen the price of a whore who'll (a) kiss and (b) swallow. Trust me, EQ = cheap."

Your reasoning is almost at the 2nd grade level!! Congratulations!

Sony's just trying to appease the power-players, who've been leaving in droves. City of Heroes is temporarily grabbing some of the more casual players away, and with EQ2 and WoW on the way, Sony's got to keep the revenue rolling in on EQ for a while longer.

They can really get away with $29.99? Take the release date MSRPs of EQ and all its expansions, top it off with $10 a month for something like (rough guess) 50 months, and you've got freaks who've paid somewhere in the vicinity of one thousand dollars for this game.

50 months would be just over 4 years. So that's $250/year. About 21 bucks a month. $5 a month. For a game some people are playing 30 hours + a week. Cheap - have you seen the price of a whore who'll (a) kiss and (b) swallow. Trust me, EQ = cheap.
