Out of the Blue

Happy Vesak to all who are celebrating, as today commemorates the birth and enlightenment of the Buddha.

Meanwhile, far from enlightened, I am a bit dazed and confused from over-the-counter cold medications. And these are not even the 'do not drive or operate heavy machinery' sort of meds, so I guess I'm just susceptible to being addled. I know there are kids that abuse these products, but for the life of me, I can't see the appeal.

I don't know, while she obviously doesn't look as good as usual, I don't really think she looks like a transvestite... and she definitely doesn't look Japanese.

But you're the expert.

I just want the premium channels (and possibly digital!) I get with my cable box on my PC. Anybody know if tis’ all possible?

Not currently. All of the cable companies use proprietary encryption on their digital channels (which is anywhere from channel 60-100 and up). The encryption is not trivial (it's not impossible either), and breaking it would be a violation of the DMCA. AFAIK, nobody sells boxes (even set top ones) that can decrypt the encoding because it varies from market to market (and a single cable company in one city may even have multiple encryptions from area to area, depending on if they bought out other companies to get the subscribers).

Now, that said, this is due to change. The OpenCable standard is supposed to take effect on July 1 (or thereabouts) of this year. At that point you should be able to go buy your own set top cable box, PC card, or TV and slip in a crypto card from the cable company. You won't have to rent the box anymore, just the card... although don't be surprised if it's still $5+/month to get the freaking card.

Your pirate name is:

Dirty Davy Kidd

You're the pirate everyone else wants to throw in the ocean -- not to get rid of you, you understand; just to get rid of the smell. Even though you're not always the traditional swaggering gallant, your steadiness and planning make you a fine, reliable pirate. Arr!

Bastards!

I was just thinking how odd it is that the cup finals could be between those 2 usually shitty expansion teams. Who could have ever predicted that would ever happen?

I can remember Wayne Gretzky (when he was with Edmonton I believe) calling the Jersey Devils a mickey mouse organization. They went on to win what, three cups?

Despite the Flyers sucess nobody is interested or talking about them around here...last I heard playoff tickets were still available.

Although I love seeing the Flyers take down the Leafs 2 years in a row, the finals will probably be between the Sharks and the Lightning. We'll see.

Bye Leafs bye.

Much as I expected. I'm surprised - but pleased - that Detroit got blown out. I'd like to see the Flames go the distance but Tampa looks like they're going to take it all.

So true. I'm sad that the Leafs lost regardless. I've been a fan of Belfour since his days with the stars...but man was it great seeing the Flames take out the Red Wings.

In other sports news (not to be a homer, or toot my own team's horn), how 'bout them Texas Rangers? Best record in MLB!

I have a copy of the Dog Brothers Stick Fighting, media of the day movie. I can upload it somewhere if someone wants to host it.

Yes, the knee shot is very wince inducing. These guys are nuts. You can find their website at www.dogbrothers.com

If I had any say in the matter, I would not let anyone take my personal information and then turn around and use that information to custom tailor advertisements to try to sell me something. Its dang confusing when ads start looking like personal messages.

How is it that people can be amused reading about the nutcases who post here and at the same time so desparately want blue to implement some user /ignore feature to filter out the idiots? If people were taking drugs, medications, or watching television on a daily, or even weekly basis, then they'd probably not react with sheer decomposure when people complain about one thing one day, and then the next day, go out of their way to make the effort to say how amusing it all is. Television and drugs breed apathy, ... I'm thinking maybe video games breed mania. They are evil yes, but not as bad as TV. Not nearly as bad. Better to play video games and go crazy than watch tv and take drugs (unless its part of the game).
