EverQuest II Beta Sign-ups

As promised (story), sign-ups to beta test EverQuest II are now being accepted (thanks Fazumar Faelcree), though they are currently only seeking North American testers for the MMORPG sequel ("European customers who wish to participate in a localized beta program may begin the beta application process on June 1, 2004."). There is still no indication of how many testers are being accepted, nor is there an explanation of how testers will be chosen.

You seem to think that:

No Monthly Fee = Not having to spend any more money on GW

Sort of like buying a house outright without a mortgage and expecting not to pay a dime from that day forth. You'll be *strongly* encouged with additional content. Mostly from peer pressure (come on man, just buy the added content, it's only $2!).

2$ a month is much less than 15$ a month - especially WHEN ITS OPTIONAL

I'll believe in Guild Wars being anything more than vaporware when it's actually out and on the shelves. Also, even assuming it does launch, there's no guarantee it won't be another Shadowbane that is filled with technical problems and virtually unplayable lag.

I'd be willing to say that powergamers will easily be able to spend more than $10 a month, probably closer to $20+. So how you define optional is up to you, but I know that econmic reality dictates things a little different than you might imagine.

So if you're a casual MMORPG player then Guild Wars is for you! Otherwise if you're one of those people who devours content and whatnot, other MMORPG's might have more bang for the buck.

GW isn't an MMO. It's somewhere between Battle.Net and an MMO. No one really knows the details of the pricing model. It is speculated that they will release expansions every 6 months or so and nobody knows the price of those either. The concept of GW sounds great, the word 'free' is being tossed around a little to loosely for my taste, I'll wait and see, I think some peoples expectations may be crushed.

i can get my fill of a level grind on a single player RPG, one that actually has a storyline, and quests that are halfway relevant

its all about triggering that pleasure center, folks... like mice on a little wheel

some people shoot smack, some people smoke crack, some people play MMORPGS

Ah but so much cheaper then that hit of crack in the morning. And on the flipside, your not going to get busted by the cops for carrying a MMORPG.

The DX9 Cards will weed a lot of people out.

Note that they say "compatible".

IIRC, a TNT is DX9 compatible. But you're going to be missing out on a lot.

They state that it must be VS and PS compatible though, which weeds out everything earlier than an original GeForce (if I remember my features correctly). The 64MB req. weeds out everything prior to the later models of GF2.

You certainly don't need a ATI 9500 or better, or nVidia FX or better card.

And that's my sum total interest in this, except as something to read while waiting for compiles.

Fariy Nuff, you're a MMO-whore instead of a crack whore, you're still a whore.
