MMORPG Specials

LucasArts announces a new way of introducing new players to Star Wars Galaxies: "Players new to MMORPGs will now get a little extra help when starting out in Star Wars Galaxies(r): An Empire Divided(r). After completing the initial tutorial, players will now be directed to one or two of the most populated cities in the galaxy, dropping them right in the thick of the action. New players will also be automatically supplied with an interactive helper droid in their inventory. This droid will not only answer questions, but it will offer guidance and suggestions based on the player's choice of starting profession. Beginning with in the medic profession, a player might be prompted by their droid to aid injured characters by crafting and using medical packs. With this help, players will instantly gain experience while learning the roles their character might play in the greater community....The addition of the new helper droid coincides with a new, low Suggested Retail Price of Star Wars Galaxies(r): An Empire Divided(r) of $29.99 at the end of the month." Also, Funcom Introduces 4.95 USD Spring Campaign for Anarchy Online announces enticements to try out the science-fiction MMORPG: "New players can now download and buy the Classic Edition of Anarchy Online for just 4.95 USD/EUR. It includes an updated version of Anarchy Online as well as 30 days of game time." There is also an offer to previous players to revive their character for 30 days for that same price, as well as a sale on the Deluxe Edition of AO (which includes the Shadowlands and Notum Wars expansions) with 30 days of game included for 14.95 USD/EUR. Both the Classic and Deluxe versions can be found on the Anarchy Online Downloads Page, where you can also download either version for a free seven day trial, an offer that's been available since September 2001 (story).

#9, no, not everyone is as much in love with the new UI as you appear to be.

I was not dissing the game, heck it still holds a special place in mah lil mmo heart, I was just giving the guy a heads up on the new UI. From what I saw on the forums at implementation, the UI was not popular.

The Funcom forums are filled with bitching

And this is different, how?

I love AO - it's a great game but MMORPG players are the biggest bunch of whiney babies on the internet. It made sense when the genre was new - but there are a billion games out there now and they all have the same problems.

Developers are slow to respond, classes are imbalanced, customer service sucks, they nerf you if you get too powerful, you have to camp spawns to get the best items, other players will grief you.

Did I miss anything?

If any of these problems are too much for you to deal with, move on! It will not change. It is the nature of the beast.

Eh? Crappy new UI? You mean the one that's customizable, allowing you to move your windows where you want, multiple chat windows? The one that allows people to design their own UI skins?

Just download a UI skin. Heck, I bet you can re-make the old UI using the new UI custom features.

On AO,

I would not go back until you read up on the latest Funcom change.

They disabled the old UI (forcing a crappy new one on you). The Funcom forums are filled with bitching.

I played swg for 2 months after release.. then 6 months later played it again for about 2 months. It grabs you at first, then gets boring quick.

Anarchy Online I played for 3 months straight. Then a few months later for 4 months. Something about the atmosphere of that game that keeps me coming back.

Both games don't keep me half as long as EQ did though.

Think I'm sick maybe.

I played this game for about 6 months and really enjoyed it. Only reason I quit was because I wasn't doing anything else with my spare time. It's definately a game that you have to be dedicated to. Worked well to kill time while I looked for work though.

He cut the possum's face off then cut around the eye socket. In the center of the belt buckle, where the possum's eye would be, he has placed a small piece of wood from his old '52 Ford's home made railroad tie bumper. Damn, he misses that truck.

I took a break from SWG in February and I don't plan on going back until the space expansion is released and is proven to be stable.

I know they are working hard at improving the game, but slow progress leads to mass exits.
