Hitman: Contracts Demo

The demo for Hitman: Contracts is now available, after a couple of mishaps earlier today that made it seem like it was released before it actually was online. The demo for the third iteration of IO Interactive's assassination series is a 192 MB download, available from Eidos Interactive UK, and mirrored on 3D Downloads, 3D Gamers, Computer Games Online, FileFront, FilePlanet (registration required), Filerush (torrent), Gamer's Hell, GameSpot DLX (registration required), and Worthplaying.

Where is the cardboard tube or what is the PA reference in Hitman 2? I'm missing that...

The reference is in Hitman Contracts. I don't even think the CTS existed when H2 came out :). Sorry, I have a bad habit of dangling participles that cause those kinds of confusion.

Here's a pic.

22. Where's the new game? Apr 28, 2004, 11:55 Sty

Just downloaded and played the demo... wtf was that? Where's the new Hitman game? I hope-ta-shit they put a whole hell of a lot more into the full game. $50 is a bit steep for a second run of Hitman 2 with a new piece of eye-candy.

...seems a bit too much of the same thing for my tastes. I never could stand Hitman due to its quirks and limited gameplay.

I do think a big step forward was taken with Hitman 2, but I was hoping for a similar forward step with this game. The AI is not quite as broken as before, but it is still a bit too quirky for my liking and the interface still bogs down the gameplay a bit.

I may pick this up down the road at a discounted price, but not right now. I am eagerly awaiting the (true) third outing of Hitman, though.

Thinking a mixture of Hitman levels with Thief gameplay would be quite fun,
Ray

Whoa I was just playing Budapest hotel, and there is this ghost, it totally caught me off guard ! Haha made me jump real good, I was super tense trying to sneak around these guards and then this floating torso walks through........well I won't spoil it, but it was a really really nice touch. Especially for those tense moments :)

16. Repeat Levels Apr 27, 2004, 23:44 Da Stylin' Rastan

Oh, and as the last poster said, there are indeed several repeated levels, but the Budapest Hotel was far and away the best mission from the original Hitman (shotgun in a rose case was classic John Woo), and I was touched to see it make a repeat appearance.

-DSR <--Loves the Silent Assassin bonus weapons, but is still amazingly pissed that you didn't get ANYTHING for getting silent assassin on every level in H2.

all I wanted after hitman 2 was more of the same, I thought it was great fun...been looking forward to this.

I had the exact same feeling when I heard that Hitman: Contracts was coming out. I had a preference for the missions not to be so linear but rather be like the first game where they were random contracts for money (One of the fun things about ol' cueball is that he is morally apathetic).

Hitman Contracts is the perfection of Hitman 2 IMHO (take this with a grain of salt, because I thought hitman 2 was the perfection of the original hitman). The jobs are indeed disconnected, but link together wonderfully as flashbacks. I'm a big fan of time phased storytelling, and Jesper Kyd's surreally good soundtracks (that man is fucking incredible) add all the more atmosphere.

And did I mention the cardboard tube PA reference! I doubled over laughing when I found that and proceeded to kill everyone in the stage over and over and over as the CTS.

I'm just so glad IO Interactive is a TRUE listening company that listens to consumer feedback in an effort to make each iteration even better. I just can only pray that the Thief team can do the same.

-DSR <--Big, huge, steaming pile of fanboyness for the Hitman Series.

I'd post my screenshot of Silent Assasin Rating for every mission in H2, but I misplaced it (oops!). Oh well, I'm 3/4 through H3 with all Silent Assasin, no walkthroughs or cheats. I am Tobias Rieper...

Well then you guys won't be happy to know that 5 of the 13 missions are all from the Original Hitman (The 4 Hong Kong missions, and the one from the Hotel). While they are all redone to be much nicer, it's nothing NEW per say. They are all flashbacks, but you still be the missions in the same way.

Agreed, it's a buggy Hitman2 with a soft focus effect I've disabled. I'll still play it to the end, was expecting so much more though. Should be a Hitman2 addon.

The first review I saw said this was just more Hitman 2, bringing along all of the faults and all of the strengths.

sure felt that way to me after playing through the demo. as much as i loved the first two, i think third time is NOT the charm in this case. i'll wait till they rediscover innovation.

If you need to backup that bad, just be more careful with your CD, you software pirate.

LOL, yeah, just like everyone who downloads Torrents and buys blank CDs/DVDs is a pirate too, right??

No offense, but shouldn't a sequel bring along a few updates and upgrades? I think I'll wait for a few more reviews before hitting the store for this.

I thought it was Starforce 3, a protection that immediately puts me off buying the game. Copy protection may be somewhat necessary to stop casual copying but SF3 hampers the honest player too much for me. Unless your game is top notch, you've lost my sale. Few games are top notch, the Virtual Skipper 3's of this world are definately not.

Hitman2 was top notch so Hitman 3 will probably be bought, but this is an exception.

It uses SecuROM, and it's trivial to get by.
