Out of the Blue

Even if the Knicks get swept from the playoffs by the Nets, at least they turned in a respectable performance last night... unfortunately, I think the team is now constructed to be knocked out of the first round of the playoffs for years to come. It's a telling fact about the sports teams I follow that the brightest spot on my rooting horizon is tomorrow's NFL draft, when the Giants will have the fourth pick (if they don't trade up). I won't be there in the gallery, but I'll be rooting hard for Gallery.

This guy explains that it's supposed to "maximize [the] usage of space," but wouldn't the machinery required to move cars around like cans of Dr. Pepper sort of defeat the purpose?

Think about it this way..most of the space in multi-story parking lots is taken up with ramps and roadway in which to drive your car. Not to mention the elevators and stair access needed for drivers and passengers. Now take a look at automated parking.... you essentially have a ton of boxes that look alot like the sorting boxes you get at post offices. The elevator/tractor machine that stores the cars just lifts them into the designated box and retrieves it again once you give it your ticket. No need for ramps or passanger infrastructure.. just a single car sized slot between rows of the parking boxes.
