Guild Wars Demo Plans

Public Guild Wars demo for E3 on GameSpot has news that ArenaNet and NCsoft will announce on Monday that they will be releasing a demo version of Guild Wars that will allow a public sample of the upcoming MMORPG during the three days of E3, May 12-14. Word is: "The Guild Wars demo was designed for easy online distribution, and the small 100K client will only need to download around 30MB of art assets from the ArenaNet servers before demo participants can set up an account and log into the game. The developer says it's ready for a massive influx of participants."

Actually, there was already a siege map once, but we don't know what other game types ArenaNet has in store for us. I'm hoping a LOT :).

No castles and stuff. There will be a constant ladder for guilds going with basic pvp play. Whatever guild is at the top of the ladder gets a "tax" from every player in the "kingdom" when purchases are made.

Yeah the game is not ONLY about PVP, although it is a very strong component. You can do whatever you want.. solo play, team up and level.. But the game will feature a ton of Player-versus-Player options as well as Guild versus Guild game types. Castle sieges are in the works, guild tournaments too (featuring fps game types.. king of the hill, capture the flag.. stuff like that)

Guild Wars has persisant tows and mission/PvP outposts where you hook up with other players to play a certain mission or a tournament map. It also features solo instanced maps mixed with persisant areas. But the primary thing about GW is going to be Guild vs. Guild and Player vs. Player battles and multiple game types like CTF (or a GW version of that), Arena, FFA, tournament etc...

No, all countries are open, everyone can try the game no matter where you are. That's why it's called E3 is for Everyone.

Um, I thought the point of Guild Wars was PvP (kind of implied by the name isn't it.) So where do you get the idea there will only be common areas to chat and hook up with group members? If the idea behind the game has changed then fair enough. It's academic for me anyway as the game is only open to selected countries (country?).

What's great about this game is that it makes EA's Ultima X MMORPG game seem like a total rip off of your hard earned cash. Both games seem to have identical approaches to gameplay..... you find people to play with in a bigger area, but once you get on the adventure, you're switched over to a place just for your party. But EA is gonna charge $15 for this!! Not to mention the graphics don't look that great.

I also love the idea that player skill will be the focus of the game, through strategy/tactics/etc, and just levelling up with massive hitpoints is not the focus. They even state that a complete newbie does have a chance of taking on a maximum level character. :-O Leveling up is about opening up new strategies to you, through new abilities, so your player becomes more versatile, and not some demi-god with a bajillion hitpoints

It's not really an mmorpg, as the Towns and Outposts are the only stagnant domains.

All questing, partying is done in "personal" domains. If I'm not mistaken Everquest 2 or something is also trying this, but in addition to the original world for everybody.
"You can meet new friends in towns or outposts, form a party, and then go tackle a quest together. Your party always has its own unique copy of the quest map, so camping, kill-stealing, and long lines to complete quests are all things of the past."

So in other words it's diablo but instead of a chatroom with player icons you get to stroll around little towns and do the same thing. Don't get me wrong, though, I'm far from panning the idea. Whatever saves me money works for me, and having been a thousand plus-hour Diablo 2 player I'm dying to get my hands on this.
