Out of the Blue

According to my calendar, today is Easter Monday... I was unfamiliar with that one. My calendar also notes another one that's new to me, as it lists "Public Holiday" in New Zealand and Australia, but in poking around the 'net this seems to be Easter Monday as well... in searching for that info, I found that tomorrow is also Easter Tuesday in Tasmania, so I wouldn't be surprised if Wednesday is Easter somewhere as well. In addition today is Cosmonautics Day (thanks Mike Martinez) in Russia, as "Forty-three years ago, on April 12, 1961, Yury Gagarin made the first space flight in humanity's history, which lasted 108 minutes. Gagarin ushered in an era of the practical exploration of space and gave a powerful impetus to technological progress, to the development of fundamental and applied science across the world." More commemoration, though not necessarily happy, comes as we celebrate today's Happy spamiversary.

Man, the must-see TV on Sunday just gets better... The Sopranos and Deadwood each get better every week. I think it's very telling about the heights that both these shows achieve that the climaxes of each of last nights episodes were inevitabilities that we've been waiting for all season, and it did not diminish the impact from either. If they offered preorders for the Deadwood DVD today, I'd order mine on the spot.

Stories of the Day: Children on Easter egg hunt find guns instead. Thanks Spank.
Weird Al Yankovic's parents found dead.
No rhapsody in blue.
Science!: New Physics Discovered on the Space Station.
Concerns That Nanotech Label Is Overused (registration required).
Follow-up: Man bets all on roulette and wins.
Thanks Mike Martinez

Don't laugh, but it was in FHM - the UK last-month-but-one's edition (I think it had Halle Berry on the cover ?!?) I'd pdf it if I had it, but it's at another house so will have to wait until next week, if I remember... Had a quick look at fhm.com but didn't see it.

I read an interview recently with some internet security guy who suggested a test: Write two emails, one with the subject "drink tonight" (or whatever) and the other with the subject "bush / blair assasination" and send the bush/blair one first, and the drink one second, to another email account. Apparently, they arrive in reverse order, because they get caught in 'intelligence' filters. I haven't tried this, incidentally, but it's an interesting idea.

I don't know why but I just don't have the energy to read that one. I tried and gave up. Maybe real life is providing enough stress and angst right now and I don't need additional from a flame thread.

I'm sure hundreds of people have sent this to Blue already, so I won't bother, but it's quite interesting: http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/business/3621169.stm

Senator Figueroa describes the service as being a bit like "having a massive billboard in the middle of your home".

Apparently, Sen. Figueroa has never used a website - GMail's plans for ads are no more intrusive than any other - indeed, (assuming their message reading algorithms are any good) the ads they'll be showing will actually be of relevance - no viagra ads unless I email a mate about it. Precisely targeted advertisments are the 'holy grail' of the industry.
And if people are so concerned about machines reading their mail / storing it, etc, I read an interview recently with some internet security guy who suggested a test: Write two emails, one with the subject "drink tonight" (or whatever) and the other with the subject "bush / blair assasination" and send the bush/blair one first, and the drink one second, to another email account. I sent them this poem

http://www.poetry.com/Publications/display.asp?ID=P4648736&BN=999&PN=1
Edit: well thats not going to work, search for the name Jesus Godshamgod, there's only one poem that shows up and its mine.
and for months they sent me letters trying to get me to go to awards shows and other bullshit. They said I was a winner of something, the thing is, everyone I know who entered a poem got the same letter saying they won. Poetry.com is a scam, fuck them.

And create a poem for poetry.com:

From the ad:

Poetry.com will award 1175 prizes totaling $58,000.00 to amateur poets in the coming months. Type your name, street address, and poem below and then click submit!

We are smart enough of a group that we should be able to pick up some extra cash with this little contest. The Hudson haiku alone should qualify. Or how about nin's aria to fred?

Damn that was a funny episode. Right up there with the "Real World" parody they did.

Material pricing is going sky high right now.

We think that might be why we're so swamped at work right now. Metal prices have tripled and they're still going up. We figure people are trying to get their projects done before the prices peak.

Speaking of outrageous prices, I went to pick up a steak last night to BBQ and being Easter Sunday there wasn't much to choose from, and the couple steaks that were left were over $17 a freakin' pound! Wholly crap!

One more thing... Enahs, did you ever find out what was causing your washing machine to poke holes in your clothes?

Gotcha, ok. I looked for that code, but I couldn't find it. I remember it was very very simple, though. It was divs and aligns set up somehow. Sorry, that's all I can remember.

Why don't you want to use a table, btw? it's just one row with three columns, not 'a bunch' ..

Well, it is already in a pretty complicated set of tables, tables in tables…..tables spanning out of one into another, variable relative sized tables….absolute tables..…. And so I have no desire to add more and make it even more complicated.

This is pretty much for a “beginners” class/intro, and I do not want it to be overly whelming/complicated. As it stands now and how I have the code arranged, it I fairly neat and understandable. I was just hoping for some other tag/string of code to do it…the css float command is SOOO close. It is actually adequate for what I want to do, but not just perfect. I guess if anyone ask, I will just tell them the truth, it gets too complicated for the skill of this class/intro. But I doubt anyone will ask, I am nit picking.

Speaking of Time Lag, I get it really bad from that daylight savings switch. I spent friday sleeping and ignoring the passage of time + daylight as it related to actual clock time. I seem fine now, but I was headachy, no energy etc. until I slept myself normal.

The companies will be very pleased.

I'm a real fan of the blue LED's, have been for a couple of years, actually the first one I got was much closer to violet then blue. But it had auto-resistance built into, this new one I have is blinding-blue on my case, and I still like it.

Ha. I've always been one since I was a small kid to like the color blue, on our old 77 Buick Skylark the high-beams had a neat color of blue; I never found one that was the same shade until these LEDs. Blue sky, blue power, blue HDD light, blue blue blue. I'm happy.

On the other hand, some of the Red and Yellow LED's make me sicker then anything, just the shading gives me terrible migraines and headaches as well, they make me violently ill. Red on Green, Blue on Yellow, and a few others make me sick as well.

Use tables.

Oh wait...

I actually saw a little snippit of code a few weeks ago that accomplishes this. Apparently it's difficult, because it was a contest to figure it out. Unfortunately, I have no idea where I saw it. I'll take a look tonight when I get home, maybe I bookmarked it or something unusually lucky...

I am currently using css span float command, but it only does left and right, not middle.

You could try the advice here:

I have no idea if it works or not.

I am currently using css span float command, but it only does left and right, not middle.
Anybody know a easy way to do this without using a bunch of tables (which I already know that way) css of xhtml is fine, but simple would be a nice solution

Blue I can ignore the pop ups and the loud annoying ads but when you start doing "the Fake window, out right lie ad" that pisses alot of people off. Its not that it fools anyone into thinking that a window has popped up tell you that you've REALLY won something because your "Unique banner Id", or that you could close that window by clicking on the "X". This kind of shamless ad reflex poorly on any site that uses them! Come on BLUE! Use Generic viagra ads or what ever you got to do, but don't stoop to decieving ads and fake windows I know your better then that.
