There have been stories about Google's email plans at least as far back as January:

On the Google email, I'm pretty sure that it is not an April Fools Joke. I say this because I saw the article on cnn.com yesterday, specifically focusing on the effect it would have on other free email services. Too bad about the ads though, but if you want a gig of free space I guess there's a tradeoff.

Funny thing about that RAID article, I use the same hard drives in a RAID0 setup. I only recently moved to this setup, and it is well worth it.

Shouldn't that be moved up into the April Fools Day section?

heh.. "What exactly is RAID"
Apparently that site thinks it's a "Random" array of Inexpensive Disks.

I certainly hope not... I like my data to be consistently accessible...

I'll use that! If you read the article, it says they will offer 1Gb of storage on the account. I hope this isn't an April Fool's, considering it was posted yesterday...

Don't like this bit though:
The free service will be supported by ads that Google automatically places in users' e-mail messages. The ads will be targeted to the readers of the messages and will correspond to the text in the messages. For instance, an e-mail message about your trouble with your DSL connection might have an ad from SBC Communications in it.
