Out of the Blue

So yesterday it was the scary car pictures, so today it'll be the cool car picture: Here is a link to a beautiful rendering of the #63 Blue's News Monte Carlo being run by Rigs of Rigs-Perkins Motorsports in his rookie season in the BGN of the MNRL (NASCAR Racing 2003). In his rookie season Rigs' team is currently 11th of 25 in the points race after five races with 11 races remaining on their schedule, so here's wishing them the best of luck with the remainder of the season. Vroom!

Stories of the Day: Engulfed by lingo.
Follow-ups: Pollution and the Slippery Meaning of ’Clean’ (registration required).
NASA successfully tests hypersonic jet.

Thanks Mike Martinez.

This page may not be authoritative, but if true it gives a pretty good idea of what it takes to keep one flying.

Thanks for the lynk- I'll check that out later.

It's possible. I don't really see the overwhelming commercial application for hypersonic flight, myself... Especially when we have enough problems with plain supersonic flight.

Not an overwhelming demand for commercial application just yet- but at the very least more research into making it a viable technology for the near future. The Wrights ran into the same problem in the early 1900s. It really took the adventurers and air racers (followed by a world war) to get the whole industry kick-started. That's what's so exciting about the X-prize, it's driven by the same adventurous spirit of many of the early aviators. The $10 million prize is not likely to cover the costs of development for most of the teams competing- but the history of air racing has had the same principles.
