I agree that id makes the best engines in the industry. I love how fast id engine games load *SNAP*. GTInteractive/Epic are much more "cpu heavy". look at the level of detail that you can get out of the Q3 engine, moreover, at that framerate. I do however have a couple of short quibbles about the q3 engine vs the q2 engine. 1) Being a map maker I have noticed that Q3 lights actually suck. No flickering lights, make a dark room in radiant, fire a rocket....notice anything odd? NO PROJECTED LIGHT! not until you put in another light source to "feed" it. Q2? lol real dynamic lighting...rocket produces its own light. this little optimization helps make q3 run so fast. limits what you can do with it though. the personal animations in quake2 were cool too, i.e. flipping the bird, taunting witht the ass slap or the crotch grab etc... exellent stuff. as for my personal opinion of UT, I found it sluggish compared to q3, in load times and in game play. tourney play in UT I thought involved to much dancing, while one-on-one'ing with someone in a good rail fight can make me sweat adrenaline! UT2k3 is a much better game than the first one, but the weapons are much more resonsive and the lightning gun is just a rail with new graphix. I am very angry that there is no co-op in doom3. That breaks the chain.
