Far Cry Patch Update

A post on the Far Cry forums called First patch scope (thanks Q) has news that the first Far Cry patch will not be released today as originally planned (story), while offering details on what the patch will provide when it does become available. The patch will include anti-cheat bug-fixes along with additional PunkBuster anti-cheat support, ASE support, new network fine-tuning commands, and more.

like i said, quick saveing thouch console screws up the compass. they probably didn't care about this liked the idea of no quicksave but had enough complaints that now they are working out a way to add it.

Surely if they included a quicksave you could still play the way you do, by not pressing the button.

Amen, I guess options scare and confuse some people. If some of you are such 'masters' of FPS immersion then just pretend the quick-save button doesn't exist.

Uh... there are -save [filename] and -load [filename] commands accessable from the console. I don't recall the exact line, but it works just as well. If you know how to bind keys, you can make a quick save and load button all by yourselves. Or quit fucking whining, get good at video games, and kick the hell out of them.

Surely if they included a quicksave you could still play the way you do, by not pressing the button. Other people can play quicksaving after every battle. On a PC there is almost no excuse as far as I can see for not including a quicksave. In fact, by your reasoning, take out all the auto-saves and JUST have quicksave. That way you can play all in one go and not respawn when you die, and others can do as they wish, and quicksave if they want. People pay their £30 / $40 for a game, and want to play it as they like.

Oh, off topic, but can you bind that save command to a key? Haven't bought FarCry yet but was wondering...

quick saveing thought the console screws up the compass, i'd imagine thats what is going to take them so long to patch it.

Well thats nice zeph, I'm glad you find such joy and ego from video games. I still think you're full of it if you tell me you play without dying and beat every game you play.

The stress of making it several hours into a game and then dying. Because most games are not designed in a manner that supports such play style. Would make me go at my computer with something heavy. Preferably a nice big hammer, or even chucking it out my window maby.

Granted you mentioned Thief, a game notable for being able to allow sustained play without death. I'm sure DX and DX:IW are on the same bag as well. Other than that, there's few games I would even try and believe your claim on.

The moral: Yay, if you can do this you're a great gamer, but. Why didn't you take up some kind of useful hobby like gardening, fencing, sex, making cold fusion? You could have a hobby and a skill that people would be impressed about, unlike gaming where such skill and claims of such skill are only met with derision.

Not only that but I've known people like you with large ego's and large claims to fame. I've learned that 99% of such people are full of shit, even if they have some modicum of talents. The claim is usually much greater than any one of realistic intellegence would believe.

To each his own, or whatever.

I love this game. The only problem I ran into so far was the control config not saving for about the 1st 3 restarts. Works great now tho. I am pretty minimalist when it comes to storylines. Immersion 1st. And for myself anyways, this game drips immersion. ;0) The autosaves don`t bother me either, as I am too sucked into the moment to care. 1 thing tho would be nice, ironsights.

I only play FPS games. Nothing else does anything for me. The original C&C was fun, as was Myth, but 3rd person is just boring. I like how it feels as if you are the guy in the game, and 3rd person just doesn't cut it.

Because I only play FPS, I'm very good at them. Occasionally, I'll pop in a wargame like COD or MOH, or I'll pop in Half-life or Thief, and just play until I die. It usually takes several hours and usually ends up being a dumb way to die, like missing a jump or lacking full control like the COD levels where you're stuck in a car or truck. I often think that it would be cool to make a demo, because people would think it was pretty awesome that I don't die for 8 hours straight or something, but then I realize that watching an 8 hour animated movie wouldn't be much fun.

My job? I work for a large corporation and assist with their immense global networking. I don't see how this has anything to do with how I play a video game. I do get 3 days off a week, so maybe that's what you were implying. But I play most every day. I love FPS games. It's just something I enjoy, like writing, photography, and coins. I'm really good at everything I do. I actually try. I find that with a little effort, anything can be accomplished.

Good to hear about the anti-cheating, I was in a game today where a guy with unlimited grenades spammed our spawn for 5 minutes straight.

I dunno, most of the quick save points are pretty close together, actually. I'm now in one of the last levels I assume where you finaly meet back up with whats-her-name and its a pretty long stretch if just because of the baddy's you fight. It wouldn't be so bad, however, you have to flood the god damn room and swim all the way to the top each time you die. Placing the quicksave at the end of the vent's would have been a much more intellegent move.

WTF is up with toggle crouch in the patch, but no toggle walk/sneak?

Im talking more about how nice it would be to be able to quick save any time for practical reasons. You know, like if you run out of smokes or beer and need to make a run. Or if your chick comes in wearing something very nice with a minimalist material styling. Or if you're just getting in a few minutes before work. Or if you have to finally go to sleep so you can wake up and continue your life as slave to the man so you can afford to buy new games every month. That kind of thing.

I doubt you play a game for 30+ hours, die and then start over. I'll listen to alot of bull but that one is over the top even for me.

If you actualy do play games like this, then what is your job, if I may ask?
