Out of the Blue

Still crashing in Battlefield Vietnam on the Operation Flaming Dart level. Things I have tried so far: Switching to Mile's 2D positional audio. Turning off sound hardware acceleration. Lowering sound rendering quality. Switching from my SoundBlaster to the motherboard's onboard sound. Turning off AGP fast writes. Whining. Crying. Banging my head against the wall... I'm sure there are other things I've tried, but the head-banging may have helped me forget them. Sigh. At least this is helping take my mind off the fact that in spite of the Vernal Equinox tomorrow, there is still snow falling outside, adding to the foot or so that is blanketing our area.

Yea, it really had probs remembering the settings which left me with 1000ms+ pings when entering a server via qtracker, but now the settings seem to have been saved. 'Nam is a great game and I deliberately skipped UT2K4 for it (although I had lots of fun with the demo) but from a neutral perspective, UT2k4 is the better game. Auto bandwidth detection, built in voice-over-IP.... it's the small things....

Is there a way to manually adjust the connection setting for online play?

If it's still the same as BF1942, I'm not aware of one. The 112K setting isn't suitable for a 64K line, however you should be able to get a < 50ms ping using the 56K setting.

Also if BFV has all the same bugs as BF1942, you might find that it won't remember the connection setting you select. To get round this you have to manually edit the setting. For BF1942 the file is:

\Battlefield 1942\Mods\bf1942\Settings\Profiles\"your profile name"\GeneralOptions.con

And the setting that needs changing is:

game.setConnection (1-4)

Is there a way to manually adjust the connection setting for online play? I use single channel 64K isdn (which is in my opinion more widespread in europe than the double channel BF:N allows) and don't want to run the 56k modem setting...

Yeah, they had them in stores before the 18th too! Serves me right trying to be lazy and save the 5 bucks in bus fare from having to go to the store to get it.

I blame Punkbuster for any lag problems, and the fact that Battlefield Vietnam is obviously running on an older version of the BF1942 netcode and game engine (not gfx).

Buy Intel, that will solve some problems.

I used to have problems with sound with a non-intel chipset, and won't go back.

Anyone else still waiting for Futureshop to send their BF:V them?

Yes, me. Ive called and given them shit 3 times this week. Was supposed to be shipped on the 16th, when it didnt I called them and they said it was delayed till the 18th, (EB said same thing so obvious distro problem). On the 18th still not shipped so I called again, now they say it will be the 19th. I just called now and still hasnt shipped, and the guy is telling me they have them in stock and are allocating the shipments and that could take 2 to 3 days.

Cancelled my Far Cry order with them and told them they will never get my business again for a pre-order. You dont pre-order something with 2 day delivery to not even get it shipped out till a week after release.

so when A page turns off right click/context menu, you can hit that bookmark and it is now enabled!

I never get what blocking the context menu is supposed to achieve. If you want to lift an image, press print screen. If you want to view the source, go View, View Source. Pretty much everything else you can do with the menus anyway. Unless I'm missing something, it seems a waste of time.

GO !!!!...although i still prefer the B&W " Fireball XL 5 " episodes ive scored on Ebay....what a great theme song that was ... i recorded a remake of it with cakewalk on my PC , i will post in my shared folder in Kazaa lite ++ if anyone wants to check it out ... its sorta punk / sci fi...just do a search for 'fireball"

Yeah, XL5 was great. Love that kitschy theme song too. I thought it was a feature SupermarianatioN film, not real actors, but I'll go see it anyway.

Yep, that's what happened. I had to uninstall Avant to get it to work. Avant hijacked the setting and wouldn't let go.

Thanks for the tip though Bronco!

In staying true to history, "Deadwood" also shows the West as a melting pot of America -- though it's an America seldom seen on Westerns.

LOL! History? Try fantasy.
