Carmageddon Sequel & Stalin Subway Plans

MCV (thanks Voodoo Extreme) has word that: "The new version of Carmageddon is due in summer 2005. Since its original release in 1997, the brand has shifted over 1.6 million units worldwide." Also, Worthplaying has some screenshots from The Stalin Subway, a previously unannounced "realistic first-person shooter which is set in Stalin's Moscow of fall 1952."

Carmageddon 1 and 2 were both made by Stainless Software. The dismal Carmageddon TDR 2000 was cooked up by Torus Games.

I'm def. down for a GOOD update to 1 & 2 though, especially with current graphics tech.

I was hugely disappointed with CDR2000. Very ameteurish effort. Definitely not AAA material.

I love Carmageddon2! I still brake it out on my 233MMX once in a while to dust off the SLI set.

Not really, GTA doesn't have a physics system for pedestrians,

Ha...Really. Though, how much total physics do you really need to replicate hitting a pedestrian? The end result is usually a rather nasty splat anyway.

beast:

Shouldn't that be http://dtd.joypadjunkies.COM?

(.net went absolutely nowhere...)

And yes - the GTA series is nothing like the Carma series... Personally, I had more fun w/Carma 1-3 than GTA3, what w/the insane power-ups, pedestrian damage, and the demolition derby aspects of the game.

And as w/most of the other posters, Carma TDR was initially weird to get into (due to the zombies and the departure from the "cleaner" graphic style of the first two), but eventually still wound up enjoying it.

And Carma 2 doesn't run on DX9? Damn...guess I'll have to fire up the ol' 98 machine to reminisce...

You know SCi is gonna make Carmageddon 4 a console exclusive. Why the hell wouldn't they. It'll probably play like another Twisted Metal spinoff. Or better yet, add the ability to get out of your car GTA3 style.

Until they specifically say it will be on the PC I'm not looking forward to this at all.

half the fun of Carma was those crazy-assed power-ups you'd stumble across...

Damn straight. My favorite Carmageddon moment was on (I think) the last level of the expansion pack. There was a graveyard where I picked up a pinball powerup and in about two seconds, the entire area was like a giant popcorn popper, with headstones rocketing in every direction, wreaking more destruction than anything I had ever seen before or since in that game. I nearly passed out laughing.

A close second would be Carma2, when I used the giant-spring powerup to launch another car mid-air into the path of a speeding locomotive.

In a day and age where we have GTA3 (Vice City), that incorporates the ENTIRE gameplay of Carmageddon as a minor feature, why is anyone actually supposed to get excited over this?

Not really, GTA doesn't have a physics system for pedestrians, which IMO was one of the best features of the Carmageddon series. It's not fun unless you're running people over and getting body parts stuck in your suspension. But they are different styles of games, and I love them both for what they are.

Yeah, definitely. That's like saying Deus Ex and Quake III are the same just because they're both first person shooters.

Carma 2 was my fav...that first level or so, where you drove onto the footballfield and drove over both teams? Priceless!

that incorporates the ENTIRE gameplay of Carmageddon as a minor feature

I gotta disagree there...it's apples and oranges...half the fun of Carma was those crazy-assed power-ups you'd stumble across...

I run a carmageddon fansite - http://dtd.joypadjunkies.net - got news about this from one of the visitors. If it turns out to be true, a new Carmageddon game would really kick ass.

Have to agree on what everyone says here though - the original Carmageddon rocked - we need the dark industrial atmoshpere back, along with the cars, physics and a decent damage model.

Yes, back to basics. Given a track, random cars, either complete the race or kill everyone.

I did not like the third one because all of that mission crap, and really strange fuzzy looking people, plus having to do so many missions in the same area.

Carma 1 and 2 are possibly my favorite games of all time. Those were infinitely replayable games. I agree, they screwed it up. I thought 2 ruled, but they blew it on TDR2000. They need to keep it simple, driving with keyboards was awesome! I want to do it again!
