How long it took for Vice City to make it to the PC? It was about a year, right? Just curious.

Six to eight months or so I thought.

I wonder why Rockstar are holding off multiplayer on their franchise. Rumours suggest it isn't happening with GTA San Andreas, and if Sony wanted about 2 million PS2 owners to hop online there'd be no better way than to make it happen then to include it.

No X Box version either, which brings me no end of happiness. I wonder how much Sony payed for that exclusive development...

GTA: VC was released for PS2 on October 22nd, 2002, and for PC on May 11th, 2003. Hopefully, however, they've got more of a base to work from using experience gained with GTA3/VC, and can either improve the visuals even further or release it at a better time. I certainly wouldn't mind having the PC version in my stocking this Christmas...

It's ok that they don't release the ps2 and pc versions simultaneously. The added time between the two should result in a better pc version (GTA3 notwithstanding).

Errr!! i hope they have a spiffy new game engine to make this thing run on a PS2. Vice city looked good on PS2, But the X-box version looked excellent. I think the PS2 already is showing it's age, time to come out with better hardware SONY. Also lets hope they do something different with the game this time.

I knew this would be the title as soon as that little "GTA4" rumor started a few months back. We will see San Andreas on the PC in May 2005 you can bank on it. Unless of course Vice City didn't do that well on PC but I'm sure it did. Does anyone know a website I can goto to see how a particular PC title sold? There are tons of games that I am curious about to see if they did decent or not. So anyway I bet we will see GTA4 for the launch of the PS3 just as I predicted. I am looking forward to San Andreas but I wonder how much better they can make it look since it's merely another PS2 port. How much better graphics do you think they could squeeze outta the PS2 than they already did with Vice City?

From the PR:

Over 30 million units of the Grand Theft Auto franchise have been shipped to date, including over 11.5 million units of Grand Theft Auto: Vice City and over 10.5 million units of Grand Theft Auto 3.

I'm sure that's console and PC sales though...

GTA3 and GTA3: Vice City was PS2 "exclusive" too, but they managed to release an X-Box version there.. The exclusivity deal probably only lasts a few years (1-2?)

It's not sad that it's an PS2 exclusive, of course the other platforms will follow eventually. It's sad that it's developed on the PS2, meaning game will have, on the rest of the platforms, PS2-level limitations, which was painfully obvious in GTA:VC.

Now maybe people will stop saying "GTA: Sin City" a year after last April Fools.

As for exclusivity, I'm hoping Rockstar learned what a big mistake that was last time. 2 years is a long time to wait for a port in the console world. Maybe this time we'll see a GameCube port! (hahaha... hah... ...)

I wonder why Rockstar are holding off multiplayer on their franchise.

Because the game is awesome single player, and they don't see the need to take off focus of the single player side to look at the multiplayer that would only appeal to a fraction of the potential consumers and existing player base.

PlayStation®2 computer entertainment system... ya know you dont call a calculator a Ti42 computer calculation system. I do agree the only reason making it on ps2 is crap would be the fact that the ps2 is severely outdated by a PC gamers viewpoint.

Last time I checked, multiplayer was a booming industry, buddy.

Anyways, San Andreas??? Cmon, how about an interesting new local? Sure, it's gonna have a few more steep roads than usual, but I'd love something different.

Also, I don't know how well their PC sales were (and I am hardly Rockstar's bitch) because I didn't buy either GTA3 or VC specifically on the grounds for a lack of multiplayer. I'm sure I'm not alone here... (cmon, what was it, a month before the game shipped they said no MP?)

San Andreas has been apart of the GTA series from the beginning, so it's not surprising.

The million dollar question is WHEN is the game set? I'm thinking the 60s would be a riot...

60s music... oh god NOOOO... the cars may have been cool, but I don't think I could enjoy driving around in music from that era.

And as for Multiplayer, this game is in serious need of some form of it, otherwise it's just washed up. Gta VC was amusing, but was to much like GTA3, with just new paint job. If they took the size of LA in True Crime (which comes out for our beloved PC in MAY!!), throw in the fighting system in TC, included it's side missions, only more, and had more places to enter, then this game would rock! I would even excuse the no MP if it had the size and fighting physics of True Crime. If they make this game like they did with GTA VC from GTA 3, then it won't be worth it to me.

And the PC version delay of 7 months is intolerable, but at least it came out so lets not bash them because console games may not look as good, or play as good in some cases, but we all know that console games sell like crazy and when it comes down to it, it's all about making the most return on a product as fast as possible to cover expenses for development.

I just hope Driv3r (pronounced Driver3) is as good as it looks, so I don't have to worry about if GTA:SA disappoints me. And it's coming out for my Xbox also, so I don't need to worry about waiting 7 months since I have an X2VGA to get high resolution out of my xbox, and there will be a delay til it comes out for the PC.

Hmm, I think if it was set in the 50's, that would rock! So much good stuff from that period, including the music. I'm sure there was organized crime back then, eh?
