DOOM 3 April 15?

Doom 3 due April 15 on GameSpot reveals what they call the "official," albeit still not officially announced ship date for the PC version of id Software's shooter sequel, attributing this information to an insider at Activision. There is, however, a bit of uncertainty to the use of "may" in the statement "GameSpot learned that Activision may be planning to ship the PC Doom 3 on April 15," and id Software has long held "when it's done" as the release date for all their projects. They also report the release date for the Xbox version is not certain yet. Update: This story has been subsequently pulled without further explanation.

JC probably called over to Gamespot and said STFU.

I mean, what's E3 without JC giving interviews where he talks about his engine. It's not E3 unless there's another D3 movie, where fans have to get tickets to see it.
I mean, what's another month? Just wait till after E3, I want it to be 3 years for them at the event.

I hope they release the first official Doom 3 test for Mac before PC, like they did with Q3. I have both a Mac and PC, so I'll be laughing either way

Gentlemen:

I'd like to take this opportunity to remind anyone from iD Software who may read this hallowed shrine of web goodness that benchmarking new graphics engines on existing and almost available technology is a viable means of creating goodwill with potential customers and of generating hardware sales for your incredibly hard working and brilliant business partners.

ahem.

Thank You.

DOOM 3!! Yay. Oh yes yay. I guess I now hold my breath until comes out like a good little fan boy!!

Seriously, who cares when games come out - quite often games don't come out when the gamers want - but mostly they do and we play them! The only exception is EA really, and they only ever pump out branded shoite from teams of about 70 people that are very uninspiring and lack any creativity!!!

This is just typical hype. When they set a release date, then they'll set it - probably when the game goes gold. Otherwise I don't care what some Assvision employee thinks...it's just pointless waffle that generates hype and gets people all worked up.

After waiting 4 years...I don't really care when they release it anymore...it will come out...I'll play it...that'll be it...the cycle continues...

I fail to see why this is a big deal. Or why Gamespot even would remove the page. Any idiot can goto EB Games and see that is the release date they have listed for Doom 3...and it's the date they have had listed for quite awhile now.

Well, this has been the longest development cycle for any id software game engine...

-?- 1990 - Commander Keen.
-?- 1992 - Castle Wolfenstein. (+2 years)
Dec 1994 - Doom. (+2 year)
Jul 1996 - Quake. (+1.5 years)
Dec 1997 - Quake 2. (+1.5 years)
Dec 1999 - Quake 3. (+2 years)
Apr 2004 - Doom 3. (+4.5 years)

April 15th...I'm tempted to say a might healthy "Right.....you go ahead and give a tentative release date for a developer reknown for setting their own schedule for things." But with the way the project's been looking up until now, it seems kind of possible this may happen. So here's to hoping.

If Doom 3 is official for April, for me it's some hell of months coming up.(and I thought 2004 was gonna blow besides D3 and HL2). Let's see...Far-Cry, Painkiller, Sacred, Unreal Tourny2k4, Battlefield Vietnam, and a possible Doom 3. Looking very good for 2004 so far with a strong start. Cheers!

Heh, and the 9800 Pros are getting mucho cheap. But I'll be honest, I'm not looking forward to this game. 3 years of hype kinda ruined it for me. I'm kinda looking forward to killing in the tropical sunshine of Far-Cry.

Gamespot has now removed that page.

I find that highly interesting to say the least.

Activision pr d00d: Hey, get rid of that page now we want this to stay secret!

Gamespot d00d: OK!
