I understand that but wouldn't it be fun to race 2 cars on the road against friends?

CMR2 multiplayer showed your opponent as a ghost car.

How would one have all the cars on the state at one time anyways ?

the road is 2 meters wide in places if not less, would be interesting for some destruction derby at the most.

So it's really the only way.

Re: "americanised" difficulty
I thought this game was not going to be released in the states at all?

Also, it's not clear whether the final game will actually allow you to compete against other cars on the road, like Rallisport does - does anybody know? I know it's not realistic that way but this IS a game for god's sake, I want to race my friends in real time, not compare an Excel sheet of lap times.

would that apply (I uninstalled and deleted the installer already) if NO MATTER WHAT the gas axis was at, it acted as if the pedal was all the way down? if it had killed the gas to hold the trigger down, then it'd make sense, but no matter what, that thing wanted to GO.

Hmmm.. that, I don't know... As soon as I started a race and saw that the throttle was doing that, I went into the menu and flipped the setting (and I've since uninstalled it as well). It'd be worth re-installing to take a look if you're a rally fan, but what you describe kinda sounds like a bug, so I dunno..

Following this satirical rhetoric is the actual commentary (small amount) about the CMR4 demo.
Please be advised that what you read may offend you only if you happen to be one of those drivers, and if so I’m glad I offended you. You need a slap in the face.

Depends on where you live in America. If you live on one of the coasts, where the melting pots are, then I would agree with you, people in America can't drive. And, if you believe that being able to drive 30+ MPH faster than everyone else, weaving in and out of traffic, without the thought of using a signal to indicate your intentions, all while talking on your cell phone makes you a good driver, you're sadly mistaken. In So-Cal I'd say 95% of the divers have never figured out what that little stick on the left side of the steering column is. Other than making a repeated clicking sound when activated they haven't a clue as to what it is used for.

After riding a motorcycle on the So-Cal freeways for several years before deciding my number was about to come up I had some very close calls. Most of which all could have been avoided if the other driver would have indicated his intentions with his turn signal. Give a guy a chance, but then again why bother it's just some a hole on a bike, right. It's your choice how you choose to drive. When you look at the stats and suddenly discover that there are more deaths involving car accidents than gun accidents, and you also look at the damage one person can do with a single vehicle as apposed to a single handgun, you have to wonder why the rules are not stricter for obtaining a drivers license. And you also wonder why the idiots who protest against organizations like the NRA have never once protested against the DMV for issuing licenses for the use of a much more deadly weapon. Maybe that’s because they own one.

I’ve seen Aunt B. change from a nice little old lady who wouldn’t harm the spider that made her jump out of her chair into Richard Petty on acid when she gets behind the wheel of her car. Some people create an altered reality when they get behind the wheel. The power they control consumes their being. Even if Aunt B. drivers a Pinto she still becomes her evil twin when she gets behind the wheel. And of course none of her accidents are her fault. She always has an explanation that differs from the police report, eyewitnesses, and the person she ran into. I don’t think she will ever get the picture until she actually injures someone. I just hope it’s not a child.

No one gets in their car to drive their child to school and gives a thought about putting their lives on the line. The idiot who gets into their car thinking they are in a race with everyone out on the street is willing to put not only his life but your life on the line. Crashing your car while driving in a race against others who are willing participants in a sanctioned race is easier to explain than crashing your car while racing against Mrs. Applecrab who was just taking little Missy to kindergarten. But some how I believe some people would still try to make it seem as Mrs. Applecrabs fault. “She had her signal on indicating she was pulling in to the exit lane, but I was going 40 MPH over the speed limit, two lanes over, when I decided to see if I could floor it around her before she got into the exit lane, so I wouldn’t get stuck behind her. So you see, it was her fault for not looking to see if someone was coming.” The sad thing about these idiots is they usually take an innocent life when they finally extinguish themselves from the increasingly rancid gene pool. Sorry Aunt B., you may be a sweet little old lady, but you become an idiot behind the wheel. You’re not driving me to get an ice cream anymore. I shudder to think my origin came from the same gene pool.

If this made you laugh, Good.
If this made you think, Good.
If you drive like Aunt B. I hope your luck doesn’t run out until you’re too old to drive. But, be aware for a guy who might come up to your car at the stop light, reach in your driver side window, and rip your turn-signal switch off your steering column. If your not going to use it you don’t need it.

BTW, I didn't like CMR3, the demo had bad frame rates and the graphics looked outdated, but the Rallisport Challenge demo ran smooth with much nicer graphics, so I bought it instead of CMR3. CMR4 doesn't seem to be that much better, but I'll try the demo anyway.

doesn't really matter anyway...I'm flat broke recently, and PGR2 is more than enough arcadey racing for me. Maybe in May when RS2 comes out I might have the cash to buy more games.

the gas, even though I'd set up my axes and tested thenm in the menu, stayed to the floor the entire time...not a good sign.

HoSpanky,
There's an option called "reverse gas/brake" (or something thereabouts) in the control menu that will correct that for you..

I'm liking the demo so far -- it's basically the game CMR3 should have been, with slightly sharper graphics. About the only thing I don't like at this point is the bright red ghost car.. that's a bit distracting, but I'm sure I'll get used to it.

Still hoping RBR can finally unseat Rally Trophy, but this should do nicely in the meantime..

One other thing I would like to add about realistic physics, is what would be the point when you are either controlling the car with a keyboard, gamepad or crappy plastic steering wheel that doesn't turn all the way round?

re:#1

?

This game is awesome, I have it on my PS2. I have not bothered to download the demo for PC yet, but I'm guessing that it has the same handling?

I cant think of one game besides Nascar 2003 that has anything close to realistic handling, but obviously Viper Racing fits that category. But as far as Rally games go, I definetly cant think of a game that does it better than CMR4.

There is a good example of European logic, Europeans didn't invent computers, how would one expect you to use one?

Rallisport Challenge? But there's no in-car perspective. Personally, I like Rally Trophy better. I highly recommend that anyone into rally games at least try it. It's challenging, but well worth it.

okay, tried this out, and...well, it really could have been better. the gas, even though I'd set up my axes and tested thenm in the menu, stayed to the floor the entire time...not a good sign. oddly, the car was controllable just with some proper use of the brake (which DID work properly).
graphically, the game's so-so. all trackside animated models seem locked at around 30 FPS, even if the game runs higher (making them stutter about, not unlike Quake 1). The landscape itself seems low-poly, and if this game is also on the PS2, that's the reason.

I was right, Rallisport Challenge is still the best of its kind. The PC version has some issues, but it's still far and away better than this.

I love this. Sounds, graphics, and feeling is just right. On a sidenote, the main menu is similar to CMR3, which is not a bad thing, but note how the music fluidly blends into several styles when you are in the various parts of the menu system. That is SO cool - something I've been wanting to see for in-game music for ages.

Actually I am sort of interested in this game:

http://xpandrally.com/en/show.php?003

Its from Techland (yes, the makers of Chrome) and it uses the Chrome engine to what looks like very good effect.

I'd also like to see a good Baja style racer with realistic physics come out one of these days.

Remember, racing games have lots of skepticism. some like arcade, some don't.
I haven't tried this demo, or #3, if there was one, but i was a fan of #2, shown to me at a lan party, and we had contests racing that game, and I bonked on the final of a huge tier of 23 people at the final race coming in second place, loosing the grand prize. (I think it was a car amp). But either way, other than the fun q3 mods and stuff we did, the rally game was certainly one of the better things I remember about the whole lan event. What fun it was, even with not-so-precise physcics or whatever, or arcady feeling driving, to have the dust on your screen, sliding at XXMPH, aroud corners, palms a sweating, hoping to be #1. It's alot of fun when played with friends.
