Out of the Blue

Hey, did I manage to jinx the weatherman? I just commented recently on how surprisingly accurate weather reports have become in recent years, and now a predicted snow storm seems to have ignored our area entirely. I doubt that this is actually a cause-and-effect between my comment on the outcome, but on the off chance, I guess I should make some sort of comment about how war, illness and poverty may never be eliminated in case that makes them all disappear too. The obvious explanation is simple coincidence, though my pet paranoid theory is that they are using alien technology to predict the weather, and a couple of comments like mine about their newfound accuracy made them realize they need to punt the occasional prediction to keep suspicions at bay.

What's that? Crazy you say? I can't hear you... my tinfoil hat is covering my ears!

As I was mentioning to Bronco earlier, it is the latest browser sensation that is sweeping the Bluesnews nation.

Mouse gestures are lame and overrated

Agreed. Why, Back In My Day, we had to control-shift-click everything! And we LIKED it that way.

Yeah, I got Firefox in the last push here on Blues. I also installed Avantbrowser on another machine. I like the features it has, but it can't beat Firefox in terms of speed. At first it seems IE (which is the backend of Avantbrowser) is fast enough, but once you go to Firefox, you can't go back.

So I've installed only All-in-one mouse gestures. Any other extensions that people want to recommend?

Oh yeah, I also like the "keymark" features. Check them out in the quick searches folder in your bookmarks. I set one up to auto search all the books on Amazon. Great stuff.

Bronco, how do you get it to ask you to save your currently opened tabs? I did it in Avantbrowser (which I'm not going to use anymore) but I can't find the option in Firefox.

Is there a consensus best alternate to Outlook Express?

I use Outlook 2003

I tried using Thunderbird but it is missing 2 major features that I need. First, I can't find a way to minimize the program to my toolbar. Second, I couldn't figure out how to customize what images that I want downloaded with the emails. I want images downloaded from some sites and not at all from others. I couldn't find any plugins for either.

Firefox is an awesome browser. I have no complaints, especially considering the advancments in the render. I really havent run into any pages that look odd becuase I am not using IE.
And mozilla's Thunderbird email client is awesome. By far the best spam filtering I have used, and its free which makes it better. It learns to identify what is spam.
And since both are open source there is a good amount of themes and plugins for each.

Really should. I can now do the following just by clicking one time on the quicklaunch icon:

Load as many different sites as I want all at once in tabs, in the order I want to read them.

When I shut down the browser it asks if I want to save my currently opened pages to be reloaded later.

http://www.mozilla.org/products/firefox/
It opens links that are external to the site you are currently browsing in a new tab or window.

The only problems I see with it right now are:

If you have under a PIII 500 forget it, too slow.

Some layouts just don't seem right with dropped buttons, icons, whatever.

Other than that, pretty slick browser. I have teh May0r to thank for pushing me to try it.

I don't VERY rarely watch television, but I have seen the video game show on TechTV a couple of times. (sorry, don't know the name) I was mesmerised by Morgan. She's attractive, funny, & likes video games. What more do you need?...I mean really?

I thought the "R" stood for REALLY fast...

Reminds me of a story...In my grandfather's senior years, he was quite a handful. One incident was where he apparently drove his car (in reverse) out of the garage, across the street, and through the neighbors fence (thankfully he missed their house).

As he would later recall to my father:

"SON. I kept hittin' the break and that thing just kept goin' faster and faster."

3 guesses which pedal he was hitting, and the first 2 don't count.
