There are now more WW2-based computer games than bombs dropped during that entire war.

But I'd rather have a choice and pick the goods ones, than bitch that there aren't any. I'm playing H&D2 right now and its fun as hell.

Some of the best gaming experiences have come out of that era.

What I think would be cool is a shooter that takes place during another war, preferably one that is more in the past. Like what about the civil war, or revolutionary war?

it's very popular to hate nazi's for good reason. therefor, they're the only acceptable badguys.

Well, that's a good reason, but certainly not the only one. World War II was so encompassing of the world that is provides an almost limitless resevoir of scenarios and ideas for backstories. Plus, the Second World War was really the last time there was as clearly definable a "bad guy" as the Nazi regime. But "bad guys" are often defined by media, rather than thought out circumstances.

Not if the name of the game is "Return to Castle Wolfenstein" and you happen to live in the Rhineland.

I actually have a theory I run past my friends about how WW2 is used so much because it's the only definite evil enemy we can point to in recent history. it's very popular to hate nazi's for good reason. therefor, they're the only acceptable badguys.

Well since everything is relative WW2 is technically happend an infinate amount of time prior to now. Sheesh, no wonder we go to war, with languages that support using opinions as facts.

Yes, i'm being over the top, but at least you can't argue my point.

but geez, it looks like it was coded on a Gameboy Advance.

I, personally, would be very impressed with anyone who coded something on a Gameboy Advance. Typing must be hard with only ten inputs.

Dang. I'd rather see a game with muzzleloading muskets than another WW2 FPS. Hmm, the North American theater of the Seven Years' War would be good.

World War 2 is a historical time period used as a setting, not a genre unto itself. The genre of most games set in WW2 is currently FPS. You can get into semantics about that if you like, but that's how I see it.

It's also been beaten to death these past few years. Time for it to slip back into it's niche.

That would be a very modern-history definition of "oldest", methinks! (but I suppose you are talking specifically about computer games, so I guess you can get away with it

Yeah, it may be a budget shooter - but geez, it looks like it was coded on a Gameboy Advance. If they're going to churn out cheap WW2 shooters, they should take a few tips from the guys who did Deadly Dozen: Pacific Theatre.
