It'd be better if Looking Glass was making the game. Oh, wait, Looking Glass is dead, and an ex-LG designer from Thief 1 and 2 is project director on Thief 3. Well ...

Interesting preview and interview up at Gamespot. Sounds like the game is drawing a little bit on Mafia. That is, there is a linear mission sequence but in between you can explore the city and go on side quests. Should be interesting to say the least.

@Xenos Overdrive

I understand what your saying. I believe people are reacting this way because of the news update that mentioned adding 3rd person perspective to the game. With what happened to DX:IW the 3rd person stuff just reinforces the fears that PC gamers have about their games being converted into console games or becoming console friendly. I'm trying to keep an open mind about the game until I play a demo but i have to admit i'm not feeling optimist. I have nothing against consoles, but their has been a trend in the gaming industry where games are being made to be please to all platforms in order maximize the return on investment.

Ah, I still degress on the nay-sayers here. You really don't have anything to go off on about this game, so you really shouldn't be that biased against it *already*. The DX:IW team isn't responsible and Harvey Smith isn't leading the development. Yes, IS's name is attached to it, but so what? Wait until the game is released then pass judgement. Besides, no one even said anything about this game being mainstreamed, ladies and gentleman. Besides, as one person said earlier, the game's mechanics are simple enough that "dumbing it down" in the same vain as DX is probably not going to happen.

Could someone please tell those of us who don't live in the exact same part of the world as whoever the hell Eidos' target audience might happen to be, when Spring is?

Thanks!!!

Message to Eidos (and other guilty publishers): Tell us quarters or months, not frickin' seasons!!! It irritates us, and makes you look like morons.

My biggest beef with IW was the terribly small maps... Thief had very few big open maps, though, so I guess that shouldn't be a problem.

The website is pretty cool, the art and music are most definately Thief. My only real concern about Thief 3 is the small level sizes. Other than that Thief was a simple game in terms of mechanics so it would be awful hard for ISA to "dumb-down" the gameplay. The only other area where the could screw up (the Thief atmosphere) seems to be doing fine if the art, animation and screenshots are reflective of the final project.

Off to play more UT2k4.

I dunno...I'm not feeling too happy with this right now. I really hope this isn't a total screw up like DX:IW, but in my bones I have a feeling it will be.

Well maybe they've learned but I guess we'll see in the next little bit if it's supposed to be released in 'spring 2004'.

You know, on a related subject, I've not been terrably excited about UT2004, but after checking out the demo it struck me . . . . UT is a great franchise and its going to deliver exactly what people expect, and that, is not a bad thing. In fact, I'm actaully kinda pumped for this game now.

And you know what else? UT2004 supports cinematic 3rd person and classic immersive 1st person modes of play. Today really feels like Christmas!

What happens when you take unique and interesting gameplay and try to mainstream it? Why ladies and gentleman you get one big old barrel of crap, that's what. If Thief III fails (or even possibly succeeds, I'm not too cynical for my own good), it will be because it is similar to Splinter Cell with swords in place of guns.

After the tradgedy that was DX2, I'm seriously worried about Thief Three (or as they say in Jamacia, Teef Tree, mon).

If they butcher it, I say we firebomb ION and put it out of its misery.

Brand New Game Perspective!!!

Cinematic 3rd Person and Classic Immsersive 1st Person modes are both fully supported!!!!!

No shit?? In one game?!?! Now tell me this game won't kick serious ass!

Ah, but seriously, when a company lists this as their #2 most interesting feature and feels the need to justify it with corny adjectives like "cinematic" and "classic immersive" I start to feel the bile surging in the back of my throat . . . .
