They need a new engine, simple as that. If we are lucky they will pick up HL2 engine for 2k5.

Well let's see. I loved UT, hated UT2k3, and this one I think is pretty good. It's a mix between the two. Luckily for me, it feels a lot like original UT though with UT2k3's graphics which is a plus. I don't know about framerates, nothing wrong with mine and I even would say it felt like it ran better than 2k3, maybe it just depends on the map ur on. Vehicles are pretty nice, the jeep type thing has a good feel to it although kinda slow. Weapons are the usual bizarre unreal stuff. I never did like the original Unreal nor the whole universe of it. I just like it as a typical FPS and nothing more.

I am very disappointed in how it runs. On average it runs about 30 fps slower then UT2K3, but really it is the same graphic engine, it does not look any better. Why the huge frame rate drop?

Can I ask what it was you were expecting?

Well.. I WAS expecting razor sharp havoc Desert Combat Unrealsticly I should add. It was just a little surprising going from always being in the top 3 DC slots, to getting pwned and being dead last in the team listings in UT04.. or UT2004 or whatever this is called.

The vehicles perform very nicely, and this is a good game. The larger maps are nice when you want strategy and vehicles. The small CTF and DM maps are good when you want to quake it up a bit.. so if it can do both you probably have a winner.

Original UT was fun. It had it's downsides and upsides. Weapons felt too weak, butdouble enforcer was infinitely more fun than anything in Q3. Maps weren't as creative as Q3, but were more entertaining in most cases. Graphics couldn't compare to Q3, but all the gloss in Q3 didn't add much to gameplay.

Overall I thought Q3 had the slight edge, but we gravitated more to UT for double enforcers, and for the stats. The stats made it, even if it was a simple cooperative 2 player game on the LAN. Looking at the stats after just made it great.

UT2K3 blew, much like U2, and I thought the original Unreal was vastly overrated.

I hope this is as good as everyone says, I have high hopes and low expectations - a decent combination to be easily impressed.

I'll check it out on Monday.

"If they would just tone down the hyperness of the game"...

D/l it now. Doesn't the demo have a game speed slider in the options like UT2003? Anyone?

Running to Pre-Order the SE now...

Tons of fun..and this is what its all about is FUN. Dont want to hear any BF1942 n00bs or anything like that comparing apples to oranges. Obviously you children werent old enough when UT/Quake style games came out, and they have a huge loyal following. I like ALL styles of FPS games and this one is just as good as the rest.

I swear people bash and hate just to be heard and noticed.

If you like a slower paced BF1942 style game, with actual teamwork and strategy, this definitaly ain't it.

Can I ask what it was you were expecting?

And if you like a faster paced tetris style game, with actual turning of falling shapes, this definitely ain't it either.

It's a bit too frenetic for my tastes - like UT2K3, but Onslaught is pretty fun. If they would just tone down the hyperness of the game I think I'd enjoy it more. It's like they designed this for 12 year old ADDs hopped up on Jolt Cola. Other than that I really do like Onslaught although it is a bit of a pain to find a server that doesn't lag.

The Original. It looks all the same to me. Very sharp gfx, very smooth.. but exactly the same super quick non intelligent flashy quake style gameplay.

If you like lots of bright colors and flash in your face like some psychotic Japanese game, getting killed by people named <<-%%%g)4ts8ckee$$443333^_^KEKE__544>- 3 miliseconds after you spawn, everyone bunny hopping around like faygs, then knock youself out.

If you like a slower paced BF1942 style game, with actual teamwork and strategy, this definitaly ain't it.
