Unreal Tournament 2004 Demo

The Unreal Tournament 2004 Demo Win32 client is now available, offering a sample of the next installment in Epic's multiplayer shooter series. The demo is a 209 MB download, available on 3D Gamers, Absolute Gamer's, ActionTrip, Adrenaline Vault, Boomtown (registration required), FileFront, FilePlanet (registration required), Filerush, FileShack (registration required), GameSpot DLX (registration required), GameTab, IGN, Loadedinc, NVIDIA's nZone, UT2003Files, and Worthplaying. Here's word from an earlier story on this on the contents: "The Unreal Tournament 2004 official demo includes five playable game modes, and offers fans their first taste of Unreal Tournament 2004’s two new game modes: the introduction of the hyper-charged Onslaught mode and the return of the fan-favorite Assault mode, which last appeared in the original Unreal Tournament. The demo also features established gametypes like Deathmatch, Capture the Flag and Bombing Run."

Is the voice chat included with this demo?

Did anyone notice that the manual for the full game is included with the demo? I went through it a little and it's pretty cool.. it even has all the weapons.

The Voice Chat sounds good... It says that: "Any transmissions sent to this channel will be "broadcasted" from your player's location in the current match. All players within range of your player's location in the map can hear your transmission."

Here's what I've posted on other sites:

FYI, d/l in 20 mins from nvidia zone!

First impressions:

Plays more like UT than 2k3, which is a good thing, IMHO. (2K3 felt too Q3-like!) Heck, even the sniper rifle is back, although w/some neat gunpowder-smoke after-effect and longer rate of fire. (Again, a good thing!) And that UT music remix is oh-so nostalgic!

Eye-candy is sweet and butter-smooth - runs great @16x12 on my AXP2600+/512MB/9500pro non-oc/EAX enabled.

Only played two game types so far:

DM - same old, same old, which means more of the same great UT DM we know and love.

ASSAULT - now this is more like it! Missed it in 2K3, and am ecstatic that it's back, and better than ever! This demo map puts UT-Train to shame! Love the multimedia mission briefing - great for n00bs! This map plays as well as the classic AS-Bridge, w/multiple objectives. Also love the objective arrow (a la Crazy Taxi).

In short, if you loved UT and hated 2K3 (esp. DM and ASSAULT), then 2K4 will be a must-buy! If you prefer the slow pace and tactical feel of ET/AA/BF/CoD, then move along - nothing to see here. But if you want frenetic, high-octane gameplay, 2K4 is the king of FPS! (Crystal Meth not included, as one other reader commented...)

Now that I finished downloading, I'll share the joy. Try this server if you're still having trouble... it's from the official mirrors.

I'm getting around 130k on it. I know not perfect, but OK... methinks I should've waited until tomorrow to cancel my file planet subs...

Loving it so far!
The moving feels "lighter".
Bad word, I know!
Game is a cross between UT99 and UTK3.
Not sure if I like the new ASMD.
Though, I love playing with smaller weapons.
Assault:Simply FANTASTIC!
BR:Seems ok. Very nice map.
CTF: OK map. Well, it's CTF in'it?
A small LoTR theme in there. :-)
DM:Map could almost have been from UT99.
Looks OK. Nice flow IMO.
Gonna try Onslaught now.
Will buy! Bye!

This game is just as crap as UT2003, I wouldn't expect anything else.

I have no idea how they managed to pull of UT and then produce to craptastic titles like UT2003 and UT2004!

I guess it was a fluke =D

Is it better than DC? If not, then I wont get that hyped up for it.

depends on your tastes. Its over-the-top like DC so I guess if you like the Sci-Fi theme your good to go....

It seems like every Onslaught server I try is plagued with horrid lag. I got on a CTF server and it ran smooth as butter.

Overall I love the tweaking they did with the weapons. the rocket launcher has been sped up (projectile wise) giving a much better feel of control. The shock rifle is now screaming purple in color and combos seem a little bit easier to pull off (not by much though). Havent really had a chance with the vehicles because of the lagginess.

All in all it seems like they re-captured the feel of the original UT again (right down to the original theme song)

Well, when I went to college we had 14.4 modems and a VAX server.

Of course, I graduated before Win95 was released, so YMMV.

This is pretty sweet. Like someone said before, it's more UT, less Quake 3, which gives it my stamp of approval. Now if only there were more dedicated servers instead of the slew of servers hosted on home connections that are up right now.

"Yes, Rocket launcher only fires 3 at a time "

But if I recall correctly I remember reading in a preview or forums or something that there's a mutator that allows the rocket to fire up to 5 like the original launcher.

[edit]: On a side note... god these servers are getting hammered. Only downloading at 34.3 KB/Sec. Ugh.
