UT2004 Demo Today

Atari sends along a confirmation of today's hot gaming rumor, that the Unreal Tournament 2004 demo is expected today:

Later today, Atari and Epic Games will release the highly anticipated official demo for Unreal Tournament 2004 to gamers worldwide. Fans will be able to download the Unreal Tournament 2004 official demo directly from www.unrealtournament.com as well as from several worldwide mirror servers that can be found at www.unrealtournament.com.

The full game will be available at retail outlets in March; pre-orders are now available at all major video game sales outlets.

The Unreal Tournament 2004 official demo includes five playable game modes, and offers fans their first taste of Unreal Tournament 2004’s two new game modes: the introduction of the hyper-charged Onslaught mode and the return of the fan-favorite Assault mode, which last appeared in the original Unreal Tournament. The demo also features established gametypes like Deathmatch, Capture the Flag and Bombing Run.

-- Onslaught Mode: Onslaught is a epic-in-scope team-based challenge that pits two teams in bitter warfare across massive terrain maps in a frag-filled battle to destroy, capture and hold key power nodes. Vehicles play a major role as war-hardened flying and driving machines transport combatants to the “front” and serve as mobile platforms to launch devastating attacks on the enemy.

-- Assault Mode: In the completely redesigned Assault mode, gamers are challenged to attack or defend bases in a bigger and badder version of the Unreal Tournament classic; many Assault maps require the use of vehicles as a critical gameplay element.

I just placed a new order on EBGames for the DVD version, and according to the them, the DVD version also comes with a windows sticker.

Yeah, it says that before you place the order:

Now, you see, the thing is, half the people here are bitching because UT2003 was too much like Q3...

Well, that's exactly what I liked about UT2003.

So why didn't you just play Quake 3 then?

Quake2003 was a joke, considering that in a lot of opinions the original UT was the better game of the two (compared to Q3). Perhaps not the best deathmatch, but certainly the better CTF and all the other game modes that ID didn't feel they needed to put into their games.

It's good to see that 2004 is going back to its roots, apparently. Bring on Assault

I'm still keen on the cool sticker for my vehicle's window that comes with the non DVD version.

I still play T2 a lot and mostly on the gamesurf.de Katabic server since that and a few others are the only populated, old-school, T2 servers left. I like the mod Mofo server runs since the skiing is faster and you can park the Jericho near buildings. The DDB Katabic server is ok although I don't like the quick inventory and repair times.

I'm not a fan of the Renegades mod, though. I thought it was silly back in the T1 days where you can have 50 force fields and 50 turrents guarding a generator.

Yeah, the gamesurf.de Katabatic servers are way cool, too bad I always get my @$$ handed to me on them by the more experienced players. But that's OK, they're a nice crowd.

Icculus (Ryan Gordon, the guy doing the ports) said Linux and OSX demos should become available within a few hours of the Win32 release.

I play T2 every night. T:V will have a "feel" of UT2K4 since they're using the same engine. You can already see it in the grass and sky.
T2 is great, but lately, it's getting to be the same. There aren't many full servers left. There's HV and a few Gamesurf.De Katabatic servers.

I never really played it much unfortunately, since my computer is an old slow POS... but it looks like a new one is coming down the pipe RSN, so mayhaps I'll pick up UT2004, assuming the demo Doesn't Suck™.
