DICE & Trauma

Digital Illusions announces a collaboration "on an upcoming product" with New York developer Trauma Studios, creators of the popular Desert Combat modification. The game involved is not mentioned, though Battlefield Vietnam comes to mind when reading that: "This new collaboration is for one of Digital Illusions' previously announced projects." Word from DICE CEO Patrick Söderlund is: "We understood the impact DesertCombat had (on the Battlefield community) quite early. This mod kept Battlefield's popularity in place during the last year, as well as helped us sell a considerable number of games. We have established a close relationship with Trauma and now we have come to an exclusive agreement with them."

How do you get to see how many exp pack kills per game you get? I'd love to be able to track my stats.

It depends on what server you're playing on. I play on Lan Camp ( http://www.lancamp.com ), and they sometimes have server stats running...though not at the moment.

i think heavy armour is pretty crappy in DC because they are sitting ducks for headshots. ji don't remember any vehicles, so id say infantry is the best, cause its all infantry

Anyone who uses the arguement that infantry are useless are either 1: They just plain suck at the game, or 2: You've never actually played DC and your spouting off bullshit.

If you dont like it thats fine, but at least come up with valid reasons to argue your case.

Talking of exp packs, what's the betting this is going to be an exp-pack for BF-Vietnam?

Yeah...if you run straight at a tank firing your little pea-shooter, you're going down REAL fast...But I can't tell you how many tank/armor kills I have to my name via exp packs. On servers that run stats, on the "most used weapon" list, exp packs are usually listed 3rd or 4th for me. I probably have 3-4 exp pack kills PER GAME. I piss off a lot of tank commanders.

DC revamped EVERYTHING. As of the current release, there is nothing from the original, aside from the maps, which are fun no matter what mod you're playing.

"If you don't use any vehicles you are good as dead because infantry have no chance against those jets and tanks."

I dunno about that. I play AT alot in DC and I do fairly well, those stingers are unstoppable when you aim them right. As for EoD, I haven't played it in a while (what version are they on now?) but agree that the atmosphere was incredible, but not really what I really wanted.
Also, there has always been talk of how DC got alot of "help" from DICE, because it was a huge mod, and EoD got shafted, because they knew early on that a retail Vietnam based mod would be made, and DICE was unwilling to help EoD on the level that they helped DC for obvious business reasons.

May have been a good idea to release an SDK then eh? Eh? Bleh.

I'm agreeing. EoD is a lot better than DC. Just because a lot of people play DC doesn't make it good. A lot of people buy those crappy tycoon games and Sims expansions...

I wish games like HL2, Stalker, Far Cry and UT2004 would hurry up so BF1942 and its crappy engine can be dumped by mod makers.

Dude, you really don't know what you are talking about. EoD is a lot better in many areas. The whole atmosphere and maps make EoD very good. DC is just a simple vehicle mod. If you don't use any vehicles you are good as dead because infantry have no chance against those jets and tanks.

See, that's what I'm talking about. It was Desert Combat that kept BF going strong, NOT Eve of Distruction. I about blew a headgasket when I read PC Gamer lauding EoD as being the best BF mod...in fact, they just awarded it Mod of the Year! Clearly, they are mislead.
