True Crime Streets of L.A. PC Plans

Activision to Ship True Crime Streets of L.A. for the PC in 2004 is the press release with details on plans for the PC port of True Crime Streets of L.A. Here's a bit on what the PC version will have to offer:
True Crime: Streets of L.A. for the PC will feature online multiplayer gameplay. Using either Gamespy or a Local Area Network (LAN), up to four players can join up and play any of five different multiplayer games. Drawing from the characters in the single player portion of True Crime, gameplay will vary from the "Fast and Furious" style of "Street Racing" mode, to patrolling the city and bagging the most criminals in "The Beat." Other multiplayer games include hand-to-hand combat in "Dojo Master," slaughtering opponents with new weapons such as a rocket launcher or crossbow in "Battle Master," and Los Angeles wouldn't be complete without a high speed car chase. In "The Chase," gamers can play either the police or criminal in a desperate race across the City of Angels.

I felt obligated to pick up this game because I live in downtown LA and was anxious to see how much of LA there was to this game.

It had many of the big landmarks, like the main skyscrapers in downtown (BofA building, Library Tower, City Hall), all the big freeways (and many of the views of the city from the freeway looked just like in real life), Grauman's Chinese Theatre in Hollywood, Santa Monica Airport (but no LAX). I was a bit pissed that there was no USC or UCLA but whatever.

The game had many big flaws, like bad controls and a dumbed down shooting mode. The storyline and acting was pretty bad too. Still, it had some fun moments.

The game got slightly less than lukewarm reception on every console gaming forum I've seen. I was sort of looking forward to it but decided against it after the reviews. Someone described it to me as "GTA + Dead to Rights Lite".

VC was awesome...Rockstar is one of the few companies that no matter what they put out, people will play. So with that in mind, I'd love to see the next GTA game set in a Hong Kong like atmosphere...

Don't get me wrong it's not a bad game but it doesn't give me the same enjoyment as GTA-VC did.

Well, I think VC would be pretty hard to top anyway. There's so much atmosphere in that one, it's amazing...I stopped playing that one last Aug. and picked it up again this month and was amazed how quickly I was sucked back in...

Thanks for the heads up...I'm pretty sure I'll pick up True Crime when it ships...

something that really drove me nuts was the sound effects. specifically the sound of your character running. i don't know who the sound guy is, but he obviously needs to either get out more or take the oatmeal out of his panties.

i thought the shooting levels were the worst. they might actually be enjoyable with a mouse, though, so there's still some hope in the respect. on the other hand, the fighting segments are probably going to be worse than on the consoles. blech, just give me GTA.

nin, The game isn't really that bad I was just turned off with it because it was 'trying too hard'. It wants to be the best driving game, shooting game and fighting game rolled into one. It seemed to me it was very ambitious but fell short on it's final presentation. They obviously wanted to outdo GTA but they didn't, I'm sure everyone would agree with that. Don't get me wrong it's not a bad game but it doesn't give me the same enjoyment as GTA-VC did. Not to mention it was on a console which I prefer PC gaming anyday to but I'll definately purchase it again for PC to give it another chance.

i liked that AOL commercial with LL Cool J, where he's in the studio recording, and you get to watch him and chat with him live via AOL...

here is the ACTUAL quote:

I played it on PS2... The game is somewhat fun, but the horrible voice acting, (cept Chris Walken) floaty car controls make:

True Crime < Vice City

It makes for a so-so inbetween game while we wait for the next GTA.

Oh yeah, and Snoop sold the **** out years ago, but what can you do?

Is there anything that Snoop Dog will NOT put his seal of aproval on? This guy is going to replace George Forman in terms of selling out.

He had a line on a 800 or some collect commercial where he just came around the corner and said fo' shizzle' Didn't make any sense with the rest of the commercial.. was really friggin stupid..

had the console version and I wasn't too thrilled

I've heard it was similar to GTA, and with a very detailed city...haven't played it though.

What didn't you like?

This sounds pretty cool but for only 4 people?!?! Well it's better than nothing. I had the console version and I wasn't too thrilled with it but the multiplayer aspect should be interesting.

I think mail is fUX0Red everywhere right now, due to the virus...in some cases, I'm seeing a 12 hour delay between when mail is sent and when it gets to me...
