Out of the Blue

Attending that conference yesterday was not only touching because of all the commemoration of my mom, but it also managed to actually be interesting for me, in spite of not being an educator (or educated, for that matter). It can be very easy to be discouraged about the future sometimes, given some of the signs of the times, but knowing there are so many educators out there putting so much thought and effort into how to best serve society and future generations was very heartening.

One of my very favorite bands. I saw them live once in the early nineties. While I was not all that impressed with them live I really enjoy their music.

Disintegration, Kiss Me, Kiss Me, Kiss Me and Wish are tops for me.

me too, Bronco... it remember it was a decent show, but then again i wasn't exactly in my normal frame of mind during the concert, so my memory of it is somewhat vague. they were never one of my favorite bands, but i did go buy myself a copy of disintegration just a few weeks ago - for nostalgia purposes i suppose. it's a great cd.

Disintegration, Boys Don't Cry, and Pornography are my favorites of theirs.

Second best band you've linked, nin.

Bleh, the Snow video is down. The Madonna video was just plain scary. That's not what I needed to see first thing in the morning.

Case question... Jan 26, 2004, 11:47

Looking for some advice here...

How important is a removable MOBO tray for a first time computer builder? I am putting together one and have heard that a removable tray is nice, but how necessary do you think it is? I want to make this whole thing go as smoothly as possible.

It's not necessary at all, especially to a newbie. Removable trays are only in the market for big time modders who make lots of changes to their configs.

From my experiences, it's an absolutely pointless feature. It's only useful for the actual mounting of the motherboard to the case. The RAM, CPU, and heatsink you can put on the motherboard before you mount it, everything else you will need to have the tray in most likely. When all the cables are hooked up, you won't be able to move it much anyway. So it's a pretty overrated feature, unless maybe you have an extremely small case and monstrous hands (as I do), but I still had no mobility problems putting my last PC together without a removable tray.

It was ok...I'm pretty sure I liked Tweekend better. But sometimes I have to listen to stuff over a few months time to decide where exactly it fits in...the latest Hybrid album was like that - I didn't like it at first, but over time it's grown on me.

Anyone watch the Golden Globes? I didn't, but I heard the results and I was very pleased to hear Lost in Translation get recognized. Great film, Bill Murray was brilliant and deserved the award.

So it's a pretty overrated feature,

I'd agree with this. I've put together about a dozen computers for people and I've never used a case with a removable tray.

Things I have liked about cases:

Both sides remove independantly of each other. The ones where the whole outer shell must come off together can be a pain.

Thumb screws to remove the panels.

Removable drive 'cages', or rails (I know some people hate rails).

Front USB ports (Firewire would be great as well).

unless maybe you have an extremely small case and monstrous hands (as I do),

You know what they say...

i think that Tweekend has better moments on it, but that Legion is a stronger overall album. Legion seems like a consistant listening experience, whereas at times Tweekend feels more like a collection of songs... know what i mean? either way, they are both excellent albums... and since you are the Minister of Music around here, i'm wondering if you'd recommend me anything new to listen to along the lines of crystal method? i'm pretty damn picky about what i listen to, though i have a huge variety in my collection. if anyone out there is feeling adventurous, i'd recommend giving Ozric Tentacles a listen. their old stuff is kinda spacy/psychadelic and not that great, but more recent efforts like Jurrasic Shift, Aborescence, Become the Other, and especially their newest ones: Waterfall Cities, and The Hidden Step are getting more and more electronic and kick ass.

I'd agree with that statement completely.

Off the top of my head: Orbital's "The Middle of Nowhere". Actually, anything by Orbital...they toured with TCM a few years ago, and I was lucky enough to see them. My friends and I were laughing at all the people that came to see TCM and then left before Orbital came out - they had no idea what they missed! If you can find a mix of "Satan - Live in NYC" (my fav Orbital track), be sure and crank it to 11 so the neighbors can hear.
