Far Cry SP Demo

The single-player demo for Far Cry is now available, released a little earlier than originally planned because it was prematurely leaked. The demo is a staggering download, available at 465 MB with the DirectX installer removed on 3D Gamers, Adrenaline Vault, Pixelrage, and Doupe.cz; while the 496 MB version with DX9 included is on 3D Downloads, ActionTrip, AusGamers, Boomtown (registration required), Computer Games Online, FileFront, FilePlanet (registration required), Filerush, FileShack (registration required), Gamer's Hell, Games Fusion, GameSpot DLX (registration required), GameTab, Happy Puppy (registration required), IGN, Loadedinc, and Worthplaying. Word from Ubisoft on this is: "The single-player demo offers an action-packed glimpse into the Far Cry world showcasing all the technically-advanced gameplay and jaw-dropping scenes from the full version of the game. Featuring a huge beach-laden level, the demo proudly showcases Far Cry's critically-acclaimed CryENGINE, huge game environments, deadly A.I., and the longest view-distance ever witnessed in a first-person shooter."

It's a pig of a game, but looks gorgeous. Wish I had the rig to playthis thing maxed out. Ahh, well another 6 months till I upgrade.
The water is just the best I've seen in any game to date. The AI is pretty freakin' impressive as well. First time I've ever seen them flanking me, nading me AND actually utilizing cover all at the same time.

It runs pretty well on 'average' PCs if you're willing to sacrifice a bit of visual detail.

Are any of the sites hosting the demo using Bit Torrent?

Edit: nm Filerush are.

Pretty impressed with Far Cry so far

AI is on a par with Half Life (npc's flanking player / taking proper cover etc). Weapons aint bad (all realistically styled) and damage is pretty punishing so its not an all out run and gun

Map is feckin huge and I counted three or four main routes onto the island (useable vehicles too).

Technically its pretty darn sweet imo - not seen a game engine that looks this good since I first saw Unreal Warfare - nice bits of Doom3-esque interiors / shadows and real time lighting etc. Swimming under the surface
is cool btw, check it out hehe

All bodes well for the full game, although demo is a bit of a hog resource-wise so hope they can crank a bit more performance out of it before retail.

Bloody huge file - circa 469mb and only contains one mission, but the island its based on is massive.

Not been this impressed in a game for nearly 10 whole minutes ;))

" Weapons aint bad "

the M16 in the 1st person view is the way it should be done. Nice modeling. They should make that view standard in all mil combat games. It is beefy, solid feeling. And when ya use mouse 2 to pull it a tad more into the shoulder, that rocks. All that`s missing is an iron sights view, and the ACOG. lol I hope some mil combat mods come for the game eventually.

GameTab has Bittorrent aswell...

Doesn't this kind of defeat the point of Bittorrent? How about we all help ourselves here and all of us use 3DGamers, just because we love Frans so much (and because they're not dumb enought include DX9 (thanks Enahs))?

I just want to say a special Thank you to Frans and 3dgamers (if 3DGamers has anybody else over there besides Frans!)

Even though I have broadband, when a new demo like this comes out, the servers can get bogged down pretty hard, and knocking off that 40 megs of the stupid DriectX installer can help a lot! I wish more people would do this, freakin’ wasting bandwidth and time!

Personally I'm partial to GameTab because they were by far the first to do the game demos/movies bittorrent thing and I've been going there for mine for nearly a year now. Plus the stats are shown. However, the 40MB 3DGamers cut out is really nice, so me thinks I'll jump on that one. Good job Frans!

Yeah, I'm also greatful that the people at 3D Gamers take out the DX9 installer, but it increases the traffic too. Since it's a smaller file, many more people want to download from them. That's why it would be best for other sites to do the same.

Who still doesn't have DX9?

Now we just need to convince people to stop using the shitty Zip format or installers based on it. DC would be 100+ MB less if they used Rar.

(Sorry zip’s just one of my pet hates )

Hi. My Nick is XT2004 and I am a Farcry MP-Beta-Tester. I can't say something about the SP Demo, but the MP-Beta-Version is the coolest thing, which I have ever played. I am a member of a battlefield clan, but now our clan will be a multigameing clan, because this game is very good.

Have a nice day and visit our clanpage at www.egk.lanstock.net
