Far Cry SP Demo

The single-player demo for Far Cry is now available, released a little earlier than originally planned because it was prematurely leaked. The demo is a staggering download, available at 465 MB with the DirectX installer removed on 3D Gamers, Adrenaline Vault, Pixelrage, and Doupe.cz; while the 496 MB version with DX9 included is on 3D Downloads, ActionTrip, AusGamers, Boomtown (registration required), Computer Games Online, FileFront, FilePlanet (registration required), Filerush, FileShack (registration required), Gamer's Hell, Games Fusion, GameSpot DLX (registration required), GameTab, Happy Puppy (registration required), IGN, Loadedinc, and Worthplaying. Word from Ubisoft on this is: "The single-player demo offers an action-packed glimpse into the Far Cry world showcasing all the technically-advanced gameplay and jaw-dropping scenes from the full version of the game. Featuring a huge beach-laden level, the demo proudly showcases Far Cry's critically-acclaimed CryENGINE, huge game environments, deadly A.I., and the longest view-distance ever witnessed in a first-person shooter."

The moron who made the install package demands you install it to the C drive. If you don't have a C drive (like me...don't ask) you're SOL. no way to edit the install file either, from what I can tell.

Not if the drive you're using is the active windows partition (which it is in this case).

Huh? I was able to install the game to my E: drive with no problem.. and I've also got an active windows partition.

This space is available for rent

You are retarded, 'Defbringer', you can easily subst and create a virtual drive C that is really whatever your primary is. Haha. Instead, you formatted. The last refuge of idiots.

Of course I meant to say Catalyst - extremely stupid me- but setting AA an AF to default solved it! Runs great now but ATI definitely has problems with the forced AA/AF settings for some games (spellforce, farcry). They still got the best hardware, though.

To guys like you and Defbringer, it'll always be average. In its genre Far Cry is very good. It looks beautifull, AI is great, weapons are realistic, and the maps are huge. Next to that there's also a good story with a misterious plot.

Are you, perhaps, one of those gamers who only conciders Counter Strike the best game ever..?
..just a thought..

Damn, I keep thinking next graphic card is gonna be an ATI though seriously. Can't it run 1 game without a problem?! Geezous. Every game there is a problem with it graphically thus leading to the countless patchs that come out per each game just to run it properly. I think I'ma go with compatibility over speed once again with my next card. Go Nvidia!...

Im with you, the demo isn't as great as some people would want us to beleive. The gameplay is far from original, and on my 9800pro i fail to see what all the fuss is about in terms of visuals. Sure there are huge draw distances, but to me, the trees look like cardboard cut-outs and FPS are low.

It appears that gamers are getting a little desperate and giving average/good games more credit than they deserve.

Defbringer, you're a tard.

Everyone else turn off FSAA in your control panel before turning it on in game. That should fix the corrupted textures (ie black boulders etc).

This is no different from the dozens and dozens of mediocre FPS demos I download throughout the course of a year.

What is the big deal? I have a 9700pro, all AA and detail set to max, this doesn't look that special to me. Game is not even fun to play. What am I missing?

AFAIK the detonator drivers are for nVidia hardware, so the problems you are having are probably related to that. If you meant to say "Catalyst" try turning AA and AF out of application ( in display props) to application pref. This solved the same problem for me.

This demo is really good...
For anyone wondering about DNA drivers, the latest ones are GREAT!! 30-90 fps, al in game set to high except AA. It's about time something this fun arrived. I just wish you could have about 200 more enemies - those firefights are awesome.

"512mb DDR 333mhz <--- What do you think.. is this the source of the lock-ups? "

well, i've got 1gb of ram and the game itself used upto around 550MB when running...so...that could be it, yes. That's excluding all the ram taken up by XP, and all the little programs that windows needs.

I'm having no problems with my 9800XT if I'm not having FSAA on. But I once tried the game with FSAA on 'High' and all I could see was my gun, the rest was alll blue and sometimes you saw blocks of how it should look like. Very weird.

But hey, what system can play that game with FSAA on 'High' yet? Maybe it's not such a big deal, but it was for my little sweet Radeon!

And comparing this game with Doom 3 is the same as comparing water with fire. Doom 3 only has claustrophobic environment. And Far Cry has vast VÁST landscapes.

About Half-Life 2 I simply don't know. But, hey, who does? We can't actually say anything about Half-Life 2 yet. The only thing we know is that it has good graphics.

Well, I dont think that Far Cry is a HL2 and/or D3 killer. However, there is no doubt that this is a gorgeous game (and fun too) in its own right. Those with high end systems will have no trouble running this game at max settings and resolution. By the way...a friend of mine had major troubles with the 9600, but none with the 5900se. I found that interesting.

Oh well, it's my fault for not getting that sorted out beforehand.

Went ahead and reinstalled windows. Can't say that the demo was worth all the effort...I have no idea what people are raving about. Very mediocre demo from what I can tell.

This demo is just astonashing! There was too much bragging about the AI, in my opinion. Because sometimes they don't shoot, are stuck in a rock etc. But I did see some great AI things like "Keep him busy! I'll get the others!" and things like throwing a grenade to the place they heard my rock hit the ground. Haha, great!

The view is marvelous! The graphics are just too beautifull! And the performance is fantastic (exept the short lock-ups every once in awhile.. but I guess that's cuz of my memory)!!!!!

My specs:

AMD Athlon 2000mhz
ATI Radeon9800XT 256mbRam
512mb DDR 333mhz <--- What do you think.. is this the source of the lock-ups?
