Far Cry SP Demo

The single-player demo for Far Cry is now available, released a little earlier than originally planned because it was prematurely leaked. The demo is a staggering download, available at 465 MB with the DirectX installer removed on 3D Gamers, Adrenaline Vault, Pixelrage, and Doupe.cz; while the 496 MB version with DX9 included is on 3D Downloads, ActionTrip, AusGamers, Boomtown (registration required), Computer Games Online, FileFront, FilePlanet (registration required), Filerush, FileShack (registration required), Gamer's Hell, Games Fusion, GameSpot DLX (registration required), GameTab, Happy Puppy (registration required), IGN, Loadedinc, and Worthplaying. Word from Ubisoft on this is: "The single-player demo offers an action-packed glimpse into the Far Cry world showcasing all the technically-advanced gameplay and jaw-dropping scenes from the full version of the game. Featuring a huge beach-laden level, the demo proudly showcases Far Cry's critically-acclaimed CryENGINE, huge game environments, deadly A.I., and the longest view-distance ever witnessed in a first-person shooter."

Not sure if this has been said but, man, this game is *made* for snipers.

Crawling through the grass, looking for a head shot, is amazing. And I love the fact that when you are prone the crouch key pops you into a crouched move, and you can add the sprint key for speed... but when you release the crouch key you drop back down to prone... and the scope is rock-solid for the shot you just set up.

Too cool.

Let's remember, this demo was released early because of a leak. There were bound to be bugs of some sort or another, however, I must be one of the lucky ones, because I installed it, got past the AA settings in game (I'm using App Pref in my console) and am being blown away by how great this game is.

AMD 3200+
Radeon 9800 Pro 256M
1gb Corsair DDR 400M
Windows XP Pro

I'm getting 30-50 fps consistently (and never below 25 fps).

The only bitch I may have is that after reading the previews of this game, I expected the AI to be 'flawless', it's good, but these guys still do stupid shit from time to time.

Other than that, FC is incredible and I can't wait to dish out the cash when it goes gold.

Just my opinion, I could be wrong

Ok, I start out, take out the two nearest huts, get the weapons, etc. Now, directly ahead, there is a base with about 5 guys, a hut, another patrol boat, and some biolhazard cages.

To the left, in a little inlet(?) there are two guys standing by a wrecked japanese half track. No buggy. :/

I've tried easy, medium, hard. I've snuck directly there before alerting anyone, I've faught my way through the whole level, etc, etc. No buggy. I'm thinking it's some sort of bug.

*Edit* BTW, anyone know if there are any console commands in the demo? I wouldn't mind some unlimited sniper ammo and god mode, not to mention flight...

Well. After finally getting the thing installed, I am plauged by technical issues. The game locked up upon trying to play it (after loading) with the Cat 3.10s, so I downgraded to 3.9s. I can now play, but it runs very crappily. It stutters every few seconds (with fairly smooth framerate in between) and turns into a slideshow whenever anything starts shooting. Plus, the sound pops near constantly and cuts out randomly. What. The Fuck.

I just built the computer. It shouldn't be having problems. My specs are fairly high-end plus, I'm running at medium detail.

The gamplay seems okay but I'm not nearly as impressed as some of you are. The AI has its momements. The freedom is nice, although a bit false. Other than that things seem a bit average. Maybe I'd have more fun if I could get the game to run properly

We all need mirrors to remind ourselves who we are. I'm no different.

Two things,
First

There are two beach encampments, the one on the right does not have the buggy, but the one of the left does. Make sure you are trying to right one.
Second
Also though, you can blow the buggy up by mistake, could be doing that?

Hehe, I was just thinking about how cool it would be for a raptor to ambush me while I was driving the jeep through the jungle. The Jeep has a very Jurrassic Park The Lost World, feeling to it. They seriously can do some kinda of dinosaur mod. Animals and creatures do look decent, just look at the dumb boar (I love hunting with a submachine gun). I also noticed no mp5 sounds right off the bat and just figured it was demo issue. Has to be there in full obviously. Multiplayer is gonna be great aside from what you see already. Has anyone watched the video of the map editor it comes with? My lord it looks simple. Think Warcraft 3 editor. You use a brush tool to paint trees down and can raise and lower land that way. Can add any objects that are already in the game by simply placing them. Looks simple that even I can make some hella maps Looking forward to it.
About the AI. Well you can never be perfect yet...At least this game gives some great moments and I just love the physics so if they act like idiots standing around or whatnot, the way they are gonna die will be worth it. Still love the game and will definitely buy it.

I agree, this engine is perfectly suited for a JP mod, perhaps make the textures alittle darker, I get the feeling im running around in a resort with the bright and cheerful colours in Far Cry.
On the other hand due to my clamorous interest for a Jurassic Park game I think it would be better of being a seperate game using the CryEngine done by professionals sold in retail stores.

That is the right beach. Maybe it comes with the soldiers on the beach, and maybe they're only there if you play on medium or hard. I've been playing it on hard, and the buggy has always been there. and i've always slid it off the cliff, too, but that's an aside.

#155 as I said, there were no soundfiles at all in the "sound.pak/weapons/mp5"-dir - it was empty...
very early in this thread someone else had the same prob... now I find it strange that others have sound
but thx anyway (it's no problem anyway, I copied the sounds from the mp-beta in...)

After seeing the CyrENGINE video from the web site, this game is SCREAMING for a Jurrasic Park mod.

Maybe someone can actually do it justice after Tresspasser.

BTW on all settings I still cannot find that buggy. Only thing I see on that beach is the rusted tank and the broken boat, I've sneaked up on the guys, rushed full force and everything inbetween to locate it and have yet to. Any chance it has to do with downloading it from fileplanet?

IGI2's multiplayer [never tried IGI1, if it even had multiplayer] was fun. There was something odd about it, but there was also something fun to finding the sniper, and watching the enemy team progress across the really-quite-large map, and trying to stop them...and also picking them off as they went on the commando slides. Didn't feel like it had the finese of some FPSs but it was fun, so no biggy.

Anyway, on topic..

\r_rendermode 1 / 2 / 3 changes the way it processes Far Cry..1 seems to do nothing, 2 looks a bit more desaturated and contrast-tweaked, 3 is vaguely cel-shaded.

Hmmm. This game made me think about IGI, too. I never played IGI 2, so I can't comment on that, but I remember the AI badies in IGI were pretty stupid. Also, other than the fact that the distant mountains looked cool (and the fact you could snipe people), I don't remember there being much point to IGI's large outdoor areas.

ok, I don't have to say how nice this game is, but one thing was really strange: the MP5 had absolutely no sound... so I looked into the FCData/Sounds.pak (just zipped, Q3 like) and there was no single soundfile for the MP5 at all - they've just forgotten to put some in... really strange...
...someone else had this?
