I got to play the Korean beta and have to say, it wasn't that bad.

I mean, I hated Lineage 1, but this is completely different with some interesting art design(Pretty much a rip from Lodoss War)

Now, hopefully for NA, they can make the treadmill a bit faster, item prices A LOT lower (sorry but a basic set of armor was just insanely expensive) I mean the lower game is fun for awhile, but does get old fast, while all the cool features are lvl 20+ like guild wars, taking over castles to occupy towns, mounts, branching class tree; fun stuff.

You can say that again, but really, was leaving EA that bad of a decision? I don't think so, but then he does something colossally stupid and goes to NCSoft... yeah big difference there Garriot.

PvP MMO Finally Jan 20, 2004, 15:28

Nice, a graphically updated PvP oriented MMO. I'm not sure why none of the latest MMO creator's don't see a market for a PvP based MMO like Lineage I and UO. There are probably well over 300k people who would jump from games like UO and Lineage to get on a new updated graphics engine that allowed totally open PvP. I thought UO was excellent and each and every time out of the cities (or even in them) was always high drama and intense action. EQ was a great game but not having any of that "I wonder if I'll be attacked" going on in the back of your head made the game a little boring after a while. Lineage II has my attention, as well as Guild Wars. I think PvP is needed to make MMO's an exciting and intense experience.

I signed up for it. Hopefully it will be more action packed than Craftizons.

Taking a character out that you've built up over time into a "real" pvp fight is so exciting... it's the only thing that kept me playing DAOC for as long as I did.

L2 seems to be doing great in Korea so far, and I know from first hand experience Guild Wars is gonna rock. The new visuals in that game just own.

Some do...

True.. SB probably would have done better if it wasn't so exploiter and bug ridden...

Does anyone know if the NA servers are going to allow Asian players? In the Taiwan and Korean releases they block US accounts.

*edit*

Oops.. warnings flags coming up. When you die you lose xp and items. Player guides seem to indicate long downtimes after combat.

May be another EQ.

Yeah, Shadowbane was actually pretty fun in concept. It had fast levelling and a system that made grouping very easy and actually very worthwhile. The problem was technically the game was being held together by duct tape. The server lag was horrible and the graphics engine was mediocre at best.

I'm really looking forward to Lineage II and am hoping it will be the PVP game that everyone has wanted and that Shadowbane failed to live up to.

You piss someone off in this game over a fucking flower, and the next day a horde of angry Korean kids will beat the shit out of you with a couple of bricks and a rusty pipe.

Really Korea, take it easy, and stop drinking so much caffeine. Repeat this after us "It Is Just A Game".

You might want to check out this player run UO shard (http://www.wtfman.com/shard/) It has a very strong population (about 1,000 players each night) that EA/OSI might be bringing back an old school UO shard for PVP minded players (http://www.wtfman.com/).

Will be interesting to see how this pans out over the next few months.

For #12 -

Yeah, I really, really liked UO and I did play on one person's private shard which was a lot of fun... but I don't think I want to go back to 'it'. I'd be more inclined to play a 2000's version of it, aka, newer tech but with the same 'soul' as UO had. It's aggrevating to me that people get so attached to their 'bitmap' possesions that they can't stand being killed by an intelligent MOB... a real life person, not an AI controlled MOB that runs to a player safe corner and gets mauled by 8 people just sitting around with hardly any danger to worry about.. *Yawn* God, I remember getting into encounters in UO where my heart would be absolutley pounding and my palms sweating when a mob of Red named PK'ers would come charging into the screen. Sometimes I would do ok, sometimes I was owned, but I have never had an MMO, to date, give me such a charge of excitement. Good times, good times.

I beta'ed UO in August of.. mmm. 90? I can't remember. No no.. 95.. ah well. Right before it hit the shelves. When Rainz fireballed Garriot to death in the courtyard.. that was great.

I alwayed seemed to run into gankers when I left the cities, so I never went with retail. I mean, ya get a load of ore from the mines and try to run back when blammo, no chance, dead. oooOooOo.. hehe

HAHA! The old ooOOooOoo from UO, what a great design idea for a game. I remember one time a group of PK'ers killed my buddy while he was traveling along a road. He followed them to their small house and haunted them till they requested a GM's help in removing the ghost. My buddy, even in spirit speak, was keeping it clean so the GM basically said that haunting was a legit RP element of UO and they had to deal with it. He aggrevated them so bad that they gave him a resurrection, gave him all his stuff back plus 500 gold and told him they were sorry for bothering them.. and this was from a group of dedicated PK'ers!!! Funny game, hard core, but funny.
