Bronco, if you haven't already ordered your case fans, take a look at SPCR (www.silentpcreview.com), they do reviews that center on noise levels. IIRC, the Panaflow case fans are generally the highest rated, but check out the site for details.

If you feel a need to spread heat sink goo, rather than just going the dab and squish method (which is probably the best way), then use a credit card or similar. Preferably one you don't like.
I think I will go with the dab and squish. I have to wait until I manage to pry off the existing backplate from my motherboard. Apparently Zalman made their heatsink compatible with their backplate and not the industry standard. I wish I knew that before I mounted the motherboard, installed the CPU and memory.
I've read some online accounts that make it sound easy to pry out. I looked at it last night and it seems pretty tight. I might have time to take a whack at it tonight.
