No, it's Infogrames. They stole the Atari name and have been whoring it ever since. Anyone who has a clue what quality gaming is doesn't recognise the change.

Infogrames has been around since air.

The Legend guys are a bit too sissy and prissy for my tastes, what with being unable to handle constant and unending abuse for a game they didn't have much choice in making. I think that the talented ones will find new homes, and the disillusioned ones will become burger flippers, and the losers will persue other jobs they have no chance at excelling at. Thats life.

ya art is what makes it beautiful, the engine just makes it run. also, Legend did touch the engine and severly borked the occulling system which didn't get fixed until the patch 3 months later. worst yet, for most of that three months they argued that the preformace was just fine and there was nothing to fix.

Yeah, U2 had beautiful enviroments, but correct me if I'm wrong, that's 100% engine, and Legend didn't really touch the engine.

You are VERY, VERY wrong. Although the engine obviously helps, the content is what you see, and if you think the content is beautiful, give credit to the content creators. You would, after all, not watch Lord of The Rings and give 100% of the credit for the environments to the people who make the cameras and film projectors.

The only real flaw was in the balance. The assault rifle was the only necessary weapon up until the alien part.

I didn't mind the briefings (although they could have done it much better with during-mission voice), it was the senseless "you might like to chat to your crew like an RPG that isn't" that got to me.
I'm good at ignoring things if I feel like it, I usually have an article on something or other to hand, and can split my attention between listening to key points and reading. Either that, or grab a coffee, snack, toiletbreak... It was dumb, crap and not fun, but it wasn't so onerous for me to ignore that it ruined some of the gameplay that was quite fun.

It's bullshit that there's no more to beautiful graphics than the engine, or anyone with Maya would be able to crank out a Square cutscene, anyone with C++ and OpenGL could write a graphics engine to rival one by JC and anyone with a pen could write Lord of the Rings.

I guess they took U2 to try to keep afloat. Guess that didn't work out so well.

The game sucked. Interesting that someone brought Halo into it, because I think the consensus around here is that Halo wasn't special, either. I'm about done with it, just for the hell of it, and while it comes close in some areas, it falls very flat in almost every other.

I still enjoyed it more than U2 singleplayer. U2 singleplayer just felt like nothing. Like pretty much every just-ok FPS out there. Halo at least tries to be different, and tries to make you feel like you're part of something bigger. It just fails. U2 didn't even try.

Some players (like me) love cutscenes and in some circumstances and games, cutscenes are the best way to forward the story.

Although I do hate it when TV commercials or box pictures ONLY show cutscenes on it, trying to make you believe, "you'll be playing this!"

How could you ignore the ship parts? The action part was fine but the crap on the ship made me gradually grow to hate the game. What was your reward for finishing a level? 15 minutes of briefing you couldn't skip. Why would anyone think the player would want to sit through that? XMP is fine and dandy but why couldn't they have patched the game so you could just go onto the next level after finishing the last. To make the game seem longer? I dunno. XMP was great but why couldn't they have addressed the ship sections at the same time they released XMP? God I hated those ship sections.

And while I'm on the subject would anybody miss cut scenes in a game if they weren't there? I keep hearing how expensive it is to produce a game these days - but what does the cutscene really add to the game?

If anyone over at the Microsoft games division has any brains they'd grab these guys before they end up going their separate ways.
