New Russian Games Unveiled

The HELLFORCES Website (thanks Gamer's Hell) has the announcement of an upcoming first-person shooter in the works at Russian developer Orion under the working title HELLFORCES. The game puts the player in conflict with a "Satanic conspiracy" and is slated for a Q4 2004 release. Also, the Power Of Law Website is online with word in Russian of plans for a cyberpunk-themed 3D tactical combat game in the works at MiST land. An English version of the offered details and a mirror of the game play movie are available on 3D Gamers. Finally, though unrelated to legitimate releases, Retail Half Life 2 pirated in Russia on the Inquirer has word on the underhanded availability of the leaked shooter in the motherland.

"Mafia,Vietcong,Silent Storm,Operation Flashpoint just to name a few are games which i can recall that have an eastern european developer, and they are as good as a match from any of the games from the West.

News Flash: Eastern European != Russian

If you can find some good RUSSIAN made games that aren't knock-offs, by all means let me know.

Nah, though, what are they copying? There's been some disapointing flops from that region of the world that have unfortunately made it to the US. Given that's there are plenty of fun and original games that have come from there, it's unfair to say they're purely copying Western releases...because the time I've spent in Asia has shown me this "original material" is largely coming from there.

Hell yeah. The Russians are getting very good at making games. The graphics almost always rock and many of the games are showing the type of originality lacking in the North American market.

Oh and, not to mention that the Russians are like gods when it comes to warez and hacking. You've got no idea how much warez various Russians have provided me with...

...probably shouldn't have said that.....

ps: I like the Rule of Law website. Huge bipedal robot rats wearing jerseys....yes please.

Speaking of Russkie games, does anyone remember Venom? The demo wasn't half bad. Big open areas, decent AI, good looking maps. I think it was about 3 years ago.

Mafia,Vietcong,Silent Storm,Operation Flashpoint just to name a few are games which i can recall that have an eastern european developer, and they are as good as a match from any of the games from the West. They might not be as well established as the bigger developers in the US,but if they keep up with their superb work they soon will be.

I think it's you who's still living in the Cold War with your head-in-cement attitude.

Well... yes, but:

The game puts the player in conflict with a "Satanic conspiracy"

And what if I want to be in league with said "Satanic conspiracy"? Hrm? What then...? I thought as much.

Equality, Russkie-boys. That's the name of the game in America. So put that alternate path in for the pro-Satan elements among the population. (Reference KOTOR for an example of proper execution.)

"I always thought the Russians just did WWII games"

Look at Flashpoint as a good example. A modern combat game not ww2 in the least, and in many ways nothing similar from the west touches it. The worst I have seen from the Euro Devs is Kreed, Breed, and Chrome. Pretty well anything else from the Eastern Bloc has been great. And look at some of the stuff coming ala FP 2, and STALKER. Echelon has been out for awhile now. But even with the certain areas that could have been better, not one western effort in the sci fi flight sim genre can compete with it.

I think if anyone churns out regurg ww2 crap... it is the western devs and their trying to reinvent the wheel. lol

It's not like anyone who buys games on the black market in Russia has any intention of paying for the full game anyway. Many software companies ignore SE Asia, China, and Russia for this very reason.

So far all I've seen from Russian developers are cheap knock-offs of existing American and European games/genres. Someone needs to remind them that the Cold War is over, they can stop copying everything from the West now.

I always thought the Russians just did WWII games, like most European developers. These titles look like a refreshing change.

God bless the Russians. they know how to make a shooter.

Re; Half Life 2 being avaialble in Russia: I think its time Valve just release the single player campaign, cut their losses and add multiplayer in a patch later on. Even though this alleged version isn't 100% complete, it still may keep folks from buying it if they feel they've already played the majority of it.
