Ed Fries Flees MS

Microsoft Says Game Studio Head Resigns (thanks nin) has word that: "The veteran Microsoft executive who headed the company's push into console video game software and is credited with launching hits like the PC favorite 'Flight Simulator' and 'Halo' for the Xbox has resigned, Microsoft said on Tuesday. Ed Fries, who joined Microsoft in 1985 as an intern, had headed the company's game studio since 1995 and was responsible for cementing key relationships with game software publishers when Microsoft introduced its Xbox video game console." Head of MSFT games unit quits on CNN Money is an article on this with a quote on the subject from Ed, who indicates his plans to stay in the game industry.

um Xenos Overdrive, give me the bottomless pit of money that MS has, including dropping trash sacks full of cash in the laps of game devs to target their game to the x-box, and a willingness to lose money over as many years as it takes for the hardware to get entrenched...

then I'll knock a hole in any market you want.

Sorry, but to suggest that the x-box legacy is some kind of business success story worthy of admiration, is like saying the bombing of Hiroshima was a brilliant military maneuver. Both were very effective, but pure brute force.
