GTA MMO please?
Massively multiplayer? Uh, why?
I find that particularly odd: everyone in the whole city is a criminal running around stealing cars?
I contest that while not every game needs multiplayer, CERTAINLY not every game needs to be 'massively multiplayer'.
Shit, if they could get 5 people to play multiplayer wise, borrowing some of the style from the first two games, THAT would be fun.
While I agree that having different locales would be cool -- too large a scale starts to diminish, for me, the more close knit, detailed setting in trade for a larger, less complex one.
I found the levels, architecture, and overall 'quaintness' of certain areas in GTA3 to be more appealing than in Vice City: the beach area with the cliffs, the used car lot/trainyard with the tunnel, the radio station, the diner down the hill, the docks, the dam, the parks, under the bridges ... there was something more varied and felt more "inside the city/alone as a criminal" in GTA 3 than in VC; I'm not sure how to explain it.
I definately have a hard time seeing GTA: the theme, the immersion, and the wild atmosphere of raising hell as a lone psycho on the street -- being duplicated with 10,000 other people online at the same time. Not to mention that the last thing GTA needs, in my opinion, are restrictions based on experience or otherwise.
If all one could do was drive around "more" of the area types of GTA3; and just have a frag count and play deathmatch/raise hell without any objective with even 4 or 5 other folks online....that would be mind bogglingly (endlessly) fun, IMO.
