Rainbow Six 3 on the XXXbox

Publisher goof lets porn ad slip into video game on CNN Money has word on an embarrassing gaffe in the Xbox version of Rainbow Six 3:
About two-thirds of the way through the game, there's a level set in a garage with posters adorning the wall. The URL at the bottom of each of those posters links to a Web site featuring graphic images, hundreds of links to XXX pictures and the welcome message "Welcome to Interracialporno!"

...

Texan Tony Ashcraft was one of the early buyers of the game and noted the URL as he played. Thinking the link might feature ancillary information on the game, he told me he typed it into his browser, only to find no one owned the domain. On Nov. 22, he bought it and immediately filled it with porn links.

Well, there goes ANOTHER company in which the artists will be able to put "little jokes" in without getting fired - and all because some asshat thinks it's funny...

Still, cheer on you guys, if you like your games bland and corporate, then you're heading the right way. <walks off muttering>

yeeaaah, right

That's not unheard of. Vice City has a few domains associated with it, and they're not even mentioned in the game. I know of www.degenatron.com and www.kentpaul.com. Also the phone numbers mentioned in the game are answered by recordings. If Ubi put an actual URL in their game and didn't register it, they're 10 times stupid.

There are so many porn sites on the web now that just getting 1/1000th of the market share is almost impossible.

Hell, I'm also shocked that the domain wasn't already taken.

anyone have a screenshot of the site in question?

if not, what is the site specificly?

Too afraid to quantum leap your ass over there to find out? I heard that Al your hologram buddy was getting his freak on with some Haitian chicks in some hot voodoo action.

Funnier than bloody hell you Americans are at times! I'm not knocking anyone here, it's just this sort of thing pops up in any country that has a mass media. Actually, events in the US such as this one are quite tame and not to often as some in Europe and especially Japan.

Ubi.com fucked this one up nicely , and I commend the Texan on seeing a good business op and quickly snatching it up before anyone else did. Like an easter egg that gives you cash if you spot it first and know what to do with it Congrats, man. As for the porn, yes, it's cheap and to "most" immoral , but as they said, if you saw it in the game, it's not illegal to expose you to it. Cover your asses better next time, Ubi, or you'll have to clean shit like this up again

Actually I am hoping that there is a copywrite violation and Ubi doesn't have to settle with him, just sue his a$$ off.
Also, I can see that lots of people didn't bother reading the entire CNN story and have no idea what is going on. (as in those that think it is a link in the game itself--duh!)

Its a smart move. At the very least Ubi will probably quietly purchase the domain and let things fade away.

Gawd Bless America baby! see an opportunity and jump on it.

I give the guy credit for discovering the URL was available...However if he thinks he can post a page with a bunch of banner ads and get shitloads of traffic he's out of his mind. There are so many porn sites on the web now that just getting 1/1000th of the market share is almost impossible.

Good luck Tony...Hope you have a good lawyer too.

I have not seen the site, but I suspect that - at least down here in Australia - it would not be the same rating as the game. I believe the game is rated M (15+) down here, whereas porn is rated R (18+) at least, and any depiction of actual sexual activity is rated X and can only be bought in one territory in the whole county (Canberra, coincidentally the seat of our Federal Government). So there is most likely a serious disparity between the material on the website and in the game.

I find the circumstances amusing, but I'm pissed off at any venture which means people unwittingly find themsleves looking at porn. Dammit, it's hard enough to not go looking for that crap which rots the mind and the soul, it's worse when people shove it in your face.

this was a pathetic attempt to get cash

There is a fellow in CA who buys up domain names of up and coming actresses (like katehudson.com for ex) and uses them as redirectors to established mega pornsites.. then blackmails the actresses into getting him to remove them

Another one of their recent games, Beyond Good & Evil has a handful of URLs mentioned in the game and the several sites they registered for the game.

This picture is still up on www.irisnetwork.net, a domain they own:

http://www.irisnetwork.net/uk/screens/BGE_Iris_emailsign_2.gif

..advertising www.irisnetwork.com. The dot com domain was picked up by one of those domain sharks. No porn in this case which is a real shame, I consider porn to be funnier than the "buy this domain" messages.

You know what the funniest thing of this whole problem is, 90% of the people out there wouldn't have known about it if this or similar things wern't posted on the internet. The guy shoulda just shut up - just like the mad cow desease thing in Alberta, Canada. But thats alot bigger than a link on the game poster in a virtual world. Whats next? Virtual Mad Cow desease?

Geez, some people can't think in 3 dimensions... Leave it to some moneygrubbing fool to make a decent game company look bad, like we really needed MORE censoring in games.

Uh no, dumbass, Ubi made themselves look bad by making such a stupid mistake. They put a URL in the game without registering it, let alone putting something related on it. I can't blame the guy for taking advantage of their idiocy. And if you want to blame anyone for censorship, blame your ever-enlightened government.

Its not exactly a family game either. I would guess the site actaully has the same rating as the game does...
