GTA4: Sin City?

Amazon.co.uk has posted a pre-order page for Grand Theft Auto IV: Sin City (thanks Tiscali Games). There's not much there, and what is should be taken with a grain of salt, but the listing offers a release date of 5 November, 2004 for the PS2 version, which, if accurate, tells us that a bunch of gamers as well as the litigious Jack Thomson will all be busy next holiday season.

It would be entertaining if in the next GTA incarnation, that you could run missions for Yakuza warring against local Triad, or vice versa.

I think by Yakuza he means Chinatown in San Andreas. Uncle Fu, Yu Pong and other such funny names.

Anyone remember the game Mafia? The one that quietly made its way onto store shelfs and never really became a blockbuster, only to those who bought it. That was an excellent game is amazing detail to each area of the games 'districts'. I wish it we're faster pased like GTA, but it was still a great game and the graphics we're 100x better than most of the games at that time! If only GTA came that way and not water-bogged-PS2 style graphics.

Would be nice to see the freeform aspects of the game expanded, make property control a larger part of the game, maybe have rival gangs launch attacks on your properties try and take over stuff etc.

Man, Gog, quite flaming for the sake flaming, it makes you look like a fool.

Where was the Yakuza district?

Gog: I think you're confusing GTA with GTA2 there.

It HAS been a long while since I played GTA1, I'll admit that, but I dont remember any kinds of lighting effects, nor much emphasis on the Yakuza.

GTA2, on the other hand, had much better graphics in the lighting regard and had gang-based wars, but other than that it was pretty much what GTA:VC was to GTA3.

"Sorry to break it to you, but GTA was made in only 98. Pretending that you're more "old school" than someone for having played a game released in the same year as Half Life kinda makes you look silly."

GTA came out in 97.
HalfLife was Oct 98.
Also remember GTA all the buildings had 3 dimensions... So it was 3d as well. =D

I am not going to bother argueing with you, people apparently play these games for different reasons, some for the story and freeform violence, others for the enviornment and yet others for a combination of reasons. I find the enviornment in VC bland, period - in contrast to GTA3 and the originals. If SC is going to be based on Las Vegas, it will be the same - for me at least.

I recommend you reinstall the original if you think each place didn't have its distinct appearance/personality. Compare the Yakuza district to the Italian district to the industrial district. Whether it was sprite based/top down doesn't detract from it, and stating it looked like shit means you must have had your eyes glazed over. I could spend plenty of time just crusing through the city investigating new areas, lighting effects were top notch too, at least for the time.

And stop disagreeing for the sake of disagreeing, it makes you look like a bitch.

Each of the originals had a city that was made up of distinct neighborhoods with distinct styling and character.
By comparison VC was a sandbox with grey concrete buildings scattered through out.

This whole subject is stupid which means its right up my alley.

I wish I could post screenshots here of the original GTA to show you how silly you sound. GTA was a 2 dimensional top down game with sprites and 8-bit graphics [ala nintendo]. It had personality and was fun, but to talk about it like each place you drove through had such differences in the way it looked? LUDICROUS!

What was the difference? The cars on the road mainly, and then perhaps the colors nearby, but everything looked like shite anyhow, so I really don't see how you can say anything you just said seriously. So basically you're wrong end of story.

The cities had their districts that varied greatly from one another in terms of their contents and appearance. The same can't be said of VC

Different districts like Washington Beach, Vice Point, Downtown, Prawn Island, Starfish Island, Little Haiti, etc.? No? What the hell are you talking about then?

you should brush up on your reading comprehension skills me boy, perhaps a break from the videogames should be at hand. GTA3 and VC are iterations of the same games that were released back in 97, the difference being that they are now based in a 3D world. The cities had their districts that varied greatly from one another in terms of their contents and appearance. The same can't be said of VC, and I doubt of Sin City.

theres nothing to argue about

That's nice. However it really has nothing to do with the CURRENT conversation, which is about GTA3 and VC.

There was nothing about Liberty city that made it strictly inspired by nyc. It was more likely inspired by a conglomeration of eastern seaboard cities - specifically new york and boston.

They do. It's called Midnight Club.
GTA isn't a racing game.

I myself also prefer the styling of the original GTA3. Character and style...

Am I the only one that thought GTA3 was better than Vice City both stylisticly and story-wise? Probably, but just wanted to ask.

Yes.
