PCI mode? WTF is that anyway? Mine's stuck in it too, across 2 OS reinstalls, and a couple years of use.
It means you did not install the mother board drivers (which really
can help out performance wise in lots of things).
And even if you did, a lot of the time the AGP driver and MB driver are separate, as well as the IDE driver. You might got a nice fast Hard Drive, but with the proper MB/IDE driver installed, it just is not running at full speed. Just like video card might not be running at full speed if it is in PCI.
But I should mention that AGP PCI speed difference(in how it is referring to it, not the actually slots them selfs) is theoretical, as it only tends to help with "speed" if your video card does not have much memory.
