Half-Life Riot In Progress

That headline doesn't refer to an uprising over the release date of Half-Life 2, but rather the release of the Riot in Progress single-player modification for the original Half-Life. The mod's story includes peril from a deadly virus, and the possibility that the player will either save mankind from its impact, or destroy mankind as a result of being infected. The mod includes 27 new enemies, 26 levels, new weapons, sounds, and more.

I'm not being a dick about it, I'm being honest. Assault on Roswell was his first mod, and it was great. If you played the first one, then tried this, you'd see what I mean about it being pathetic.

Putting someone down for something you can't even do is wrong, and even if you where an expert at it.

No it's not. Most of you are wrong one way or the other. Yea, you shouldn't be a dick about it, but don't be a pussy either.

"Let me know if it's any good, will ya?"

I hate to be mean, its not my intent, but it is really bad. Frankly, the mapping is just poorly done from textures to sizes, it does not feel right and plays just as bad. I dont think its the worst I have ever played, but frankly, its down the list pretty far

This is why I still read Blue's: the occasional link or news item that I can't get just by looking at the daily "headlines" on GameSpot, IGN, etc., which are really just a compilation of all the press releases that were sent out that day by the big publishers.

I haven't played this mod, so you may be correct that it's not the greatest, but isn't it good that there is still left some remnant of a fan-based community, and sites like this one that are willing to report on it? With Microsoft doing everything in its power to kill the PC as a gaming platform, and most large publishers avoiding PC titles that aren't cross-platform, it's good to know that there are still fans and small developers who are willing to create original content for PC games.

Please point me in the direction of your more recent mods, I'd like to give them a balanced, thoughtful review.

I'd have to say the samething about you guys being jerks.

I'm starting to mess around with UnrealED and I'm building repect for anyone who takes on this stuff. Putting someone down for something you can't even do is wrong, and even if you where an expert at it.

Everyone has to start from somewhere. These kind of responses would hurt someone and possibly cause him or her to quit when they could have a lot of potential. You wouldn't tell an art student in class that he sucks and should never had tried, that's destructive.

it's just a free mod someone made. you don't have to act like such jerks about it...

it's fun and hard to make mods, and thats why people call it amateur. It's not all going to be a professionally built game using a whole team.

criticism is fine as long as you keep it constructive. You don't have to be a dick about it.

Just wait till you get a little further, it seems to get worse as you go. It has to be one of the worst mods I ever played. It may have been cool for Quake, but it's pretty pathetic for half life.

The horrible mapping is slightly overshadowed by the horrendous gameplay. Not to mention the god awful camera views it forces you to use. Other than that, it still sucks.

Looks absolutely atrocious from the screenshots of the enviroments / enemies. A real grim mishmash of unthemed nonsense reminiscent of the bad old days of ultra-low-quality Quake mods. Shouldn't there be some QA on stuff like this getting made news??

Sweet, has not been much in single player episodes in a while that I have seen besides single maps. Downloading to give it a shot.
