Quake (Tenebrae) Industri

The Industri Website has the release of what they are characterizing as a "leaked alpha" of Industri, which is based on the Tenebrae version of the Quake engine. They say: "Think of the release as an early preview."

That mirror is bullshit. You have to time it just right to download anything.

I guess people think their work is more important when they call it "leaked". Makes them think they're playing with the big boys.

The graphics engine is better than most of the crap that's out right now... So they are pretty 'big'.

I would really like to try this out, it looks nice. Hell, I would even help out for free(since it is a free project) with the texture work if I like what he is doing.
BUT
It requires the Quake pak files, only my version does not have PAK files! Everything is just uncompressed in a directory structure!

I can not play it!! AHHH!! Any suggestions?

Your pak files should still be apart of that...

NEIN.

Well, Maybe they should be, but they are not.
I lost the cd ALONG time ago, but backed up the install on a LS-120. Hell, I have not used my LS-120 driver in 2 freakin years, was not even sure if it worked with WinXP proper!
Are the pak files on the install side, and everything is pulled out if it?
Quake runs perfect, so…damn it!

Last time I checked the only thing you 'vis' are maps. You don't 'vis' pak files.

The pak files are convienent ways of 'pak'ing a whole bunch of files without having to dump it all over a directory. As long as your directory structure in the quake dir isn't all hosed I don 't see the problem. Besides work for a completely seperate gametype would probably be done under a different folder than 'id1' which all the vanilla quake1 stuff/pak files are under.

Industri only requires a few files from the original Quake game (these have not been replaced yet). If you have unpacked you pak files, the best thing to do is copy the contents of your quake/id1 folder to the 'legacy' folder.

About the XP crash, all I can think of is video card drivers. The game works for me (P4 3.06, 512 ram, GeForce4 Ti 4800 SE, WinXP SP1 and latest video drivers)

I tried what you said Tigger-On, but no luck.
I still have the same problem, when it loads up, just a completely white screen. I had just assumed it was from the missing pak files, but I guess it is something else.

Got a GeForceFX 5600, latest drivers of course. Running WINXP with SP1 as well. NO OC'ing or anything.

BAH! Wanna try this, it looks great, and I have been looking for something cool to contribute work to!

Maybe, but the game they made is a lot better than the games that you and I made, I'm sure.

I give them credit...:)

OK, I'll point the core Tenebrae developers to your post and see what they have to say. Thanks heaps for trying out. I'm hoping the next release will work for you!

Actually, X that
I was clicking the .exe, not any of the .bat files.
Which now that I look at it, it is not a industri exe, but a tenebrae exe....

It does work, I am stupid. Looks sweet though, runs like crap, but looks great!

What are you needing done texture wise? Just suping up the old quake textures not yet re-vamped? Or are you looking for someone to create new textures?

How do I get graphics acceleration to work? It runs pretty speedily in software, but it's not ideal, obviously. I'm guessing it'll involve patching my newly-reinstalled Quake and using the updated paks, but I'm not sure.

As far as texture help goes, I require someone that can make original diffuse textures with matching specular and normalmaps. You would also need to understand how shaders work. A texture artist is no longer someone that simply knows how to make a seamless texture in Photoshop :] Idealy they would be 256x256 in size and they would suit the current atmosphere that you are seeing. You could play around with the current textures in the release to get an idea and understanding how it all works.

Wow, you got it run in software? Thats pretty wild and I have no idea how you managed that as the bsp is Quake 3 format. The release is a 'stand alone'. You do not require the quake.exe, only the pak0.pak and pak1.pak files. This information is in the readme (from memory)

It looked like software. I probably just don't know what I'm looking at.
