Definite thumbs up, at least on xbox. I played magic about twice, many years ago. It was intriguing then but like most pen&paper/tabletop/card games, there was too much annoying maintenance. Maybe I'm just an adrenaline junkie, but taking this franchise to the digital world in an action setting finally made it really fun for me.

One word of advice, watch out for the green trample/giant growth combo online. It's an easy tactic that can overpower quickly, seems to be dominating the xbox live rankings right now, although it can be defeated.

Only 2 downsides imo:
- having to play the quest to unlock cards for online.
- repetitive load times seem silly for how little is in a game scene.

>is this the unreal powered one

You are correct. Unreal powered. I also didn't have high expectations for Battlegrounds, but was pleasantly surprised (I have the Xbox version, but have also played the PC demo) Its high speed makes it feel more like a fighting game than a RTS (and I say that in a good way). Just understand that it's an MTG 'themed' game, and not a console version of the CCG. I've read tons of comments how people disliked it simply because it had the MTG name attached to it, yet it wasn't turn based like the CCG.

Oh well.

I was expecting this game to be complete ass and was pleasently surprised. The game is similar to its namesake in so much that certain mechanics are analogous (Counterspell works the same), and the cards come from the CCG but the game really could have had any motif put on it. There's some forthought required to play better than your average bear, though I claim to be no expert. Thinking about picking up a copy over the holidays or maybe on sale after New Years. Too many other games to play for me right now.

I've played the full version and it's pretty cool. Definitely not what I was expecting. Requires quick thinking and must have quick fingers to play this game.

And for those graphic whores out there, the graphics are very nice.

The Xbox trial that was floating around was actually kinda fun.

It's sort of like Magic with some other game elements thrown in.

Holy crap, didn't this game start development like a thousand years ago? Or is this a different Magic RTS?

Couldn't they make a smaller demo without a time limit?
You should really download the demo before you buy it. It's not like the card game and some of you(Not me ) might be a little upset with the changes they've made.
The keyboard controls are strange at first, but they are really easy to use after a few matches.
