Out of the Blue

Last year I recall a couple of occasions where rain storms failed to put a dent in the snow piles, but yesterday was the opposite... one good day of rain eliminated about every flake that had previously accumulated.

Thanks to those with advice on hosting a network game behind NAT... I haven't gotten to try this out yet, but it's reassuring to know that there's a method to properly tunnel through to my machine.

That New Zealand accidental prohibition story of the day from yesterday was actually from a couple of years ago, so please just consider that the nostalgia link of the day.

Blue, Yes it does work. The proper technique is called Port Forwarding and nails a port number (such as 80) to an inside PC. Not all firewalls/routers/cable devices/what-have-you support this, however. It IS possible. I do it. My girlfriend has a friend in a neighboring state that likes to FTP. So I tell the router, hey, if you hear an incoming FTP request, pipe it to my girlfriend's inside PC. Not mine!

Also, we have a web server. Work the same way. I tell Mr. Router (via Port Forwarding config) hey if you hear a request incoming to port 80, pipe it to our web server on the inside.

Same can be done for multiplayer game servers. I have hosted before behind our NAT. You can easily host all different kinds of things this way (port forwarding) while using NAT.

Not all devices have this support. Depends on how much you paid for said device. Good luck!

9/10

"The professor gave the most difficult problems to Andrea and me."

Funny one that, I was always told to uses the pronoun 'I' in such cases, but now I know.

Edit: using the wrong formatting tags, again

also 9/10 and on the same question, but I used myself. I claim 10 since the rationale given is that myself is valid but used for emphasis. grrr.

Sometimes things that aren't "rules" are expressed as such with the idea that some future teacher will fill in the exceptions when the time is right.

This pronoun trick is easy though... just reform the sentence without the second party or group:

"The professor gave the most difficult problems to Andrea and me." This correctly becomes: "The professor gave the most difficult problems to me."

As opposed to:

"The professor gave the most difficult problems to Andrea and I." Which becomes: "The professor gave the most difficult problems to I."

I had the same first reaction...the "I" would be used in something like this:

Andrea and I received the most difficult problems from the professor...

Hmm. 9/10. I got nailed on the bad/badly one.

Whenever I approach a grammatical problem like this, I imagine what the sentence would sound like if it were spoken by some snooty English person. And in this case I am certain that he/she would have said 'badly'.

Bah, I missed the "I" question as well. I also missed the lay vs lied question... I never could grasp that in elementary school. I think I got it now though, some 20 years later. Or, should I say late?

Bronco, where ya been? Everything ok?

Work has bodyslammed me for the past week.

No big deal, usual end of year stuff. Four jobs went to bid in the past 6 days, year end close out of books, HR year end stuff. Plus all the stuff I normally do. Plus the house. Plus shopping for Christmas. Plus an hour a night for BGII.

In other words:

I have a confession to make.

I hate "riced" out cars.
But damn am I having fun playing NFS:Underground, and ricing out my car. Everytime I race, I think god that looks ugly as Paula Jones that has been pooped out of a bear, but yet it is still fun!

I feel like a "unwashed" heathen!
