Just install Linux (RedHat 9) on a PC with 2 NICs.
Then, port-forwarding is a breeze. I use it every day.
I can send you the iptables commands if you need help.

Banddirector, if you've never really played CRPGs then you'll most likely love KotOR. It's got a number of flaws that most reviews glossed over but on the whole it's a very enjoyable and cinematic experience. I'd recommend it as an introduction to CRPGs at the least.

As most things TCP have their roots in UNIX, you can get a pretty good handle on firewall rules to support bi-directional 100% fully transparent routing by viewing UNIX man pages. The IPFW commands are generally all you need to configure a router for trasnparent proxying. I've been doing what you have been doing, disconnecting the router and attaching the modem directly to an inside windows box when I want to host, but, have been thinking about a quick script to quickly let inside machines host without disconnecting my firewall. I'm not sure if the comments above re. divert and foward would do the trick, however. Divert simply send packets to a divert port on your router. Forwarding lets you forward packets to a different machine on your inside box, but, "The fwd action does not change the contents of the packet at all. In particular, the destination address remains unmodified, so packets forwarded to another system will usually be rejected by that system unless there is a matching rule on that system to capture them." I'm not sure if you can configure windows to let you accept packets bound to a different address or if you can create an alias ip address that has the same address as your router without creating some kind of conflict.
I think a more sure bet would be to enable VPN on your router. You'd simply tell your clients to create a windows vpn connection to your router (kinda like what kali does) so that as far as your hosting inside box is concerned, outside connections are on your same local network.
Not all routers support VPN (virtual private networking) however. FreeBSD supports VPN and is a great way to make use of outdated computers.
I too would be very interested in knowing if anyone's done this with just divert or forward rules in their firewall rules, without needing to config their host box to accept packets addressed to the router.

Pellet Puppy sums it up well...the story draws you in (the fact that they set it 4000 years before the films allows them a fresh start), the gameplay is a blast, and the graphics aren't hard on the eyes, either...

I've spent hours just playing Pazaak (a card game you can play and win money - almost like blackjack, only you go to 20, and cards can be played either positive or negative). Some of the members in your party will talk to you, or each other. There's plenty of side quests to add to your time, but most of them you can say "no" to if you don't feel like helping someone. The characters speak their familiar SW dialects, with subtitles at the bottom (Hutts sound like hutts, Twilek's sound like they did in the movies, etc.)

It's not perfect - but it's close. The menus do feel a bit console-ish (no drag and drop), I didn't like the turret mini-game (horizontal mouse control felt too loose), and there is the occasional bug (I've seen one so far).

But I highly recommend it...if you think you'd like an adventure game where YOU make choices, there's a strong story, fun characters, and great graphics, I'd give it a shot. Shame there's not a demo, as I really believe it would sell the game well.

This is what I liked about Kotor. You can goto a bunch of planets, choose to be good or bad, it has a D&D level system, a great story, you can read and hear!! what everyone is saying, modify your weapons/armor, it looks nice, control more than one character, and it has some fun mini-games.

Newer games (such as Halo PC) use NAT negotiation schemes to connect to games hosted behind NATs when everyone is NAT'd. Check out STUN for an example of a more formal protocol specification.

O.K. guys, I've seen so many of you slobbering over KOTOR that my interest is piqued; is it really that good? Would an avid FPS fan be able to get into an RPG game like this? I've never played an RPG and they don't sound all that appealing, but geez, so many of you have written such positive things about KOTOR I just gotta know - - what's the appeal?

Blue, Just forward what ever ports doom uses to your computers IP address. Say the port is 58 and your computers ip is 192.168.1.5. Just go to the port forward setup on your router and tell it to forward port 58 to 192.168.1.5.
Then any thing on prot 58 will go to that ip.
