Ships Ahoy - T3: War of the Machines

Atari Ships "Terminator 3: War of the Machines" (thanks Frans) is the press release announcing that Judgment Day is nigh, and that this Terminator first-person shooter is now appearing in stores, presumably naked and looking for sunglasses. Here's a bit:
Atari shipped "Terminator®3: War of the Machines(TM)" today to retail stores for the personal computer, a single-player and online multiplayer first-person shooter set in the ravaged battlefields of the Tech Com-versus-SkyNet conflict. Developed by Hungary-based Clever's Games, "Terminator 3: War of the Machines" allows up to 32 players to face off online as either technologically-advanced SkyNet Terminators or battle-hardened Tech Com Special Forces in an epic multi-player struggle for supremacy.

T3: War of the Machines is worth renting just so you can play the T3: Redemption demo. The demo that comes with the game (developed by another studio) is better than the game. That's actually pretty funny.

Alot of people dont like X2 already =) I'm starting to get bored, and HATE the gfx. The ships are simply ugly

Hahaha please show me where on the web people think the graphics suck in X2 ROFLMAO

also the only problems people have with the game so far are a few minor patch problems and a few problems with a memory leak but the game is getting stellar reviews.

Now that technology has caught up it would make a hell of a game.

Yes if only Bethesda could catch up with the technology. Who ever came up with the idea of using a practically unscalable (No LOD settings!) engine for Morrowind should have his head pecked to death by a cliff racer.

Out of the three major games I was looking forward to, DX2, T3, and X2, 2 out of 3 are shiat.

I'll be trying X2 tomorrow when it hits EB, and if THAT sucks, I really have no idea what I'm gonna do. No way I'm doing the FF MMOG.

this game had so much potential, could have been cool but it's just plain bad"

the game didn`t have potential... the movie licence it is based upon HAS the potential to be an awesome sp and mp game experience. It`d be great to see alot of sim attributes to it. But I knew Atari`d blow it. There hasn`t been a great movie licence yet that hasn`t been pissed up a wall by a dev team who doesn`t cut the mustard.

Noooo a real engine can`t be found to use for Terminator eh? Bummer...... No real talent to Dev it either it seems. Bummer X 2.

Why didn't they use the friggin bf1942 engine? Sheesh..

I think it is. Feels too similar. Maybe they stole the code?

The game plays like a really, really bad BF1942 mod, but built on weaker graphics technology.

From the screenshots that I've seen of the maps and from playing the Downtown map, they do look nice though. It looks like there was some decent talent at work but Atari jumped the gun.

Hard to sell future rights Dec 3, 2003, 14:10

With these titles being this pathetic, the right owners to Terminator may have a hard time getting much money by selling the rights to produce games in the future. I know that I won't be buying any games from this franchise in the future. I just hope someone tries to nail them on the false advertising details now that they have yanked the cutscenes.

After hearing more reports from England, it sounds like the full version has all of the same bugs as the demo plus several new ones including lots of lockups. They also forgot that they released in England several days earlier than in the U.S. so nobody could do multiplayer until a day or two ago.

When people look at the dates on the extracted files from the demo .cod file the dates on most files are fairly new. In addition, from what I hear, they may not have beta tested this at all ( other than the "leaked beta").

No doubt the people who own the Terminator franchise got their money up front, including Arnold.

Interestingly enough they left some of the voice-overs Arnold did for the singleplayer portion in the game.cod file that was originally going to be used in the game, they match up exactly to the video clips I’ve seen for “Redemption”

What’s confusing is I believe Redemption is being produced by another game developer, and only for consoles no less.

Looking through the reviews for T3 Rise Of The Machines, their other T3 title for the consoles, I couldn't find even one review which didn't say that it was absolute garbage and that it didn't look ready yet. If I were the rights holder to Terminator, I'd sue Atari for making the franchise look so bad.

Most of SP scrapped for future game? Dec 3, 2003, 13:49

I'm wondering if the reason much of the SP game and cutscenes were scrapped is because of a combination of not being ready and them saving it for their next Terminator title, Redemption.

I really, REALLY wish they'd do a remake of the orignal Bethesda Terminator game for the PC that came out in 1991. That game was badass, full replica of metro LA, with Morrowind-like openness and you could be either Kyle Reese or the Terminator. Now that technology has caught up it would make a hell of a game. Especially if there was multiplayer! It would be awesome if one person could be the Terminator and he had to hunt down and eliminate Sarah Connor, who is being protected by another player playing as Reese. Sometimes I think game comnpanies completely miss some of the best ideas out there. Shadowrun in a MMO would be another...
