This forum thread has word that the Hordes of the Underdark expansion for Neverwinter Nights is now available, just as was promised (story). The post breathlessly announces: "Hordes of the Underdark has shipped to stores in North America and many other parts of the world! Check with your local retailer and then head out and buy it this epic expansion!" Thanks Maximus.

A question.. if I buy NWN:HotU can I make a brand new character that will be lvl 30+ or do you have to have an existing character from the previous expansion that is lvl 30+ ? Right now I am playing the plain vanilla NWN and am currently lvl 7. Just wondering.

For added benefit, the camera has been unlocked so you can pan right down to a 3rd person perspective

I've been led to believe (based on what i've read) that HoU requires you have an existing character at least at a lvl 18 or so. I'd keep working on your vanilla and get thru chapter 2 of the OC or try to finish the first add-on. This is just hearsay, so don't fully quote me on that.

I heard a reviewer saying with some certainty that you would be able to use an existing level 20 character or create a new one already at level 20. I cannot for the life of me find the source of this, unfortunately, but I do distinctly remember reading it somewhere.

What I'm really curious about though, is whether you will need the Undrentide expansion in order to play this one? I didn't get Undrentide (although I likely will someday) but I'd really like to play Underdark. Any hope for me, or should I just wait until there's a "NWN Platinum" released with all the expansion packs including this one?

a) You can take a brand new character into Hordes of the Underdark--you'll just be automatically leveled up to level 15 (you can still choose how you want to level up if you'd like).
b) You don't need Undrentide to play Hordes.

I'm pretty sure you don't need to have Undrentide to play Underdark.

Once again, not here in fucking thrice damned Oklahoma. Dammit.

I guess I'll be picking up THREE games at the store tomorrow. The last time I bought three games at the same time, though, the games were

System Shock 2
Age of Empires 2
and Magic Carpet 2.

If these three are as good as those three, hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm yummy

1 - The game has shipped today, and should start showing up on store shelves tomorrow.

2 - At the start of any module, whether it's from the official campaign(shadows of undrentide, hordes of the underdark) or not, you can choose to start a new character or play with a previous one. Sometimes the module itself will let you level your character to an appropriate level. Most of the time I use one of the dozens of mods out there to level up and outfit my character after I've created a new one.

The other thing that you get with the Addon's is like The Sims, the more addon's you get the more goodies you get, and if you play online some Servers require you to have X addon.

Personally for me, the Epic Levels, and finally the inclusion of Wizard's Wardrobe, along with other such nifty ideas like sky, will make me pick this up tomorrow.

As it was mentioned in a review the only thing I'd want more is more "Casting Voices" to go along with the new spells.

Now Bioware.. start on that KOTOR addon or Sequel, and this time add the damn Editior with it so we can have more fun once the game is over. After playing it 3 times through on Xbox I don't want to even touch it again.

I'd love for Bioware to do this (as I'm sure a lot of people would). But there's rumors of Bioware farming out the dev of KOTOR2 to an outside party. I hope that doesn't happen, as they really seemed to nail the original.

Yeah, this one really seems worth it. The camera has much more freedom of movement so you can see the sky and everything.

You don't need the last expansion pack and you can have two henchmen now instead of one. Although they are still controled my the retarded computer AI, it should be a bit better.

Yeah, Obsidian Entertainment is developing it. Given that OE is made up of the former-Black Isle Devs that made Planescape: Torment I'm not too concerned. On the otherhand Troika's founding members played a big part in Fallout and they still have yet to make a good game.
