Here’s my take on the game.
The game feels like a mixture of Privateer (for the trading aspects) and Earth and Beyond (for the combat aspects, and without real players). I've not progressed far enough to be too critical of the game. What I've experience is fun, albeit slow.
The game is visual eye-candy, which surprised me because large developers usually do games with this level of quality. All in-game information and communication is audio with optional sub-titles. Cinematic and cut-scenes use the game’s engine, which is lovely when dealing with space, but sucked with character animation. Sound is decent and appropriate. Music had an electronic sound that sounded appropriate, though I long for a space game that has an orchestrated score (not withstanding Star War: Galaxies).
AI seems decent. Enemy Pirate’s dock with stations then left a short time later and headed for another station or jump gate. It’s refreshing to see NPCs that appear to think and act for them. Probably one my biggest gripes I have are the controls. Maybe it’s my ship, or my input device, but controls were sluggish in a firefight. I got the impression the pirate was playing me then just blasted my ass. This comment was edited on Dec 8, 14:56.
