Ever think that some people have read those threads and completely disagree w/ em Gandhi? I for one am still buying it the day its released =P No need to convince other people not to buy a game that they may enjoy simply because you happened to not enjoy it.

But yeah, I'm having a hard time getting the DS demo to run properly. The mouse/sword thing just won't stop flickering. Original DS didn't have his problem, hmm...

Money limitations however mean I'll probably be getting DXIW first

You may want to read some of the posts on the Deus Ex thread couple of news posts above this one before you commit to Deus Ex 2. Me? I am gonna wait for Deus Ex 2 to end up in the bargain bin a year from now before I buy. That's what I did with the first one, and did not miss out on anything.

Sounds pretty good although the comparisons the BG2 make me a little wary. Good game but also one of the most overrated. Eh, regardless I'll probably still enjoy KotOR. Money limitations however mean I'll probably be getting DXIW first.

how is this game different from other RPGs other than this game has NO slowdown at all in gameplay? meaning: theres no walking for 30 minutes doing nothing or sitting in a town waiting.. or not fighting for 20 minutes but walking around a dungoen looking for a magic smurf.
in RPG's you buy/sell goods
u fight baddies
u interact with NPC's
theres a storyline
u set your weaps and spells and then use the quick keys for them

again.. tell me how this game is so different than any other RPG? not as deep of a story.. but it makes up for it by not having any slow points like most all RPG's do.

i like this game.. just pure action for the most part. tinker with your item setups, set teh right spells for the guys youre fighting...etc. simple, but fun.

Why doesnt anyone compare KotOR to NWN? I think its much more NWN-like than BG2 or Planescape. Its more like a mix of Fallout and NWN. even though, I hated NWN, I really like KotOR. Its not THAT addictive tho. I have it laying here, played it 2 days ago until I was out of the ship and never touched it again since then. I feel myself dragged somewhat to it, but I have better games to play right now... Oh and btw, somehow it doesnt really feel like an Star Wars game. That may be because I didnt play it much yet or because it is a few thousand years in the past. Still, all Star Wars games ive played yet (and Ive played all except SWG) gave me that typical feeling right from the beginning, but this one didnt...

Oh yea, this was an DS Aranna thread, hehe.
I liked the original DS. It wasnt very challenging, but it was sooooooo pretty that it made up all lack of story and gameplay. You could actually concentrate on the prettyness and creepyness of places in this game. I dont have that time in most RPGs! Im getting this for sure as soon as Im done with these games.

I have given up on waiting for BIS to come back to their senses and do a real ArmA 2 successor.

KOTOR is incredibly addictive! Installed it, got past some of the technical issues (would not play on my Radeon AIW 9800 with latest Cat 3.9 drivers) and once I started playing, I could not stop. I am spending a lot of time just looking around and exploring - the game is very pretty. First sitting - played from 1 am through 7 pm - I have not doen that in a very long time!

I have the full game and I like it. sometimes I dont want a long drawn out story.. sometimes i don't want to wander through 8 caves in order to find a secret rock and then backtrack 45 real-time minutes to return it for my miniquest only to receive a haircut as a gift.
i ahve fun equipping my guys, and running aorund and killing baddies. i use diff spells, diff weapons on diff baddies..etc.
i make it fun to play
i dont like the length of time and lack of action a conventional RPG takes.. this game is more up my alley.

anyone have any good walkthroughs for this expansions? i cant find any.

'So how's KotOR compare to Fallout and Planescape?'

It's been a long time since I played either one, but the 'feel' seems to be very much BG2 in the Star Wars universe. It's hard to explain, it just struck me that way. There's lots of interesting interaction with the playable NPCs, and a very involving storyline. It's also possible to avoid some fights using high Charisma and the Persuade skill, etc. so in that way it's a bit like Planescape, though a lot of fights are unavoidable.

The fact that ALL the dialog has voice overs, with some of the best voice acting I've ever heard in any game, sets it above all the rest IMO. If you liked any of the 3 (the Baldur's Gate series, Planescape, or Fallout) you will definately like KotOR. My first sitting I was playing for over 5 hours and had no idea that much time had passed.

The 'C' also differentiates it from console RPGs, which are usually japanese style, whereas CRPGs usually refer to D&D style RPGs found mostly on PC.

'What does the 'C' stand for?'

Computer, to differentiate from normal pen and paper RPGs. I usually just call em RPGs, but some people seem to get annoyed by that.

OT: Knights of the Old Republic is definately the best CRPG I've played since Baldur's Gate 2.

This one is a bit better than the first in some ways. The mobs are harder to peel off 1 by 1, making some of the combat a hair more interesting. There's also a bit more of a story, with a lot of books and journals laying around to read. It is still Dungeon Siege though, so don't expect to use your brain much. If you didn't like the first one, this one won't change that. I only got about 1/3 of the way through before KOTOR came out, and that was the end of DS for now.

OT: Knights of the Old Republic is definately the best CRPG I've played since Baldur's Gate 2.
