Ships Ahoy - Lock On: Modern Air Combat

Lock On: Modern Air Combat Ships Nationwide is the press release announcing that The Fighter Collection's jet combat flight simulator has landed in stores in North America. Here's a bit:
Lock On is the only modern day flight simulation game to combine high fidelity with a broad choice of aircraft. The game is filled with action-packed missions, realistic flight modeling and flexible game options that provide unlimited game play action to both beginner and veteran flight simulation fans. The game's blend of high-powered aircraft and various fighting styles combine for the most realistic flight sim featuring today's most advanced military aircraft.

About Lock On: Modern Air Combat: Lock On allows players to fly eight different combat jets in a conflict over the Black Sea region. The Crimean peninsula and western Caucus Mountains are the setting for a hypothetical, present-day air conflict. Available to the player are ground attack and air superiority fighters, including the American-made A-10 "tank killer," the Russian Su-27 and the German MiG-29A.

Scripted Campaigns Nov 22, 2003, 13:09

The problem with campaigns in "action" sims like Strike Commander, US Navy Fighters, space sims, etc., is that the key to success always came down not to pilot skill, but memorizing the scripted events. So you usually were forced down a sequence of actions that you would never, ever have performed on the first try.

Not only that, but the 'superman' aspect of me having to down 12-15 enemies per mission, while my wingies stood around with their thumbs up their keister, never appealed either. I guess the space sims are OK in that department, but in a WWII or modern flight sim, immersion is the key for me.

I could see someone coming up with a set of canned missions that had lots of room for variables - sort of a canned/dynamic hybrid - in which you have a scripted main objective, but could encounter random patrols, or experience random behavior from your target. But it seems like no one wants to try something like that. It's like they can't resist forcing me to deal with the same squadron of MIGs here, and another set of Sukhois there, or making me realize that no matter what I do, those tanks are going to blow up the bridge anyway...

actually most of the flyable aircraft in that game dont have fly by wire, if any....

I have given up on waiting for BIS to come back to their senses and do a real ArmA 2 successor.

Hey mental case....relax. While your fly by wire observation is certainly a breaking newsflash....All the people want is centering TENSION in the stick, not wind moving over the wings, etc force feedback. Many people have these sticks because they are great for IL-2:FB and don't want to buy another controller just for this game.

they haven't fixed the tension in force feedback.

Christ.. modern jets are fly by wire! Theres no force feedback while flying them! TAKE YOUR STUPID UNREALISTIC FORCE FEEDBACK AND SHOVE IT!

Freespace 1&2 had the perfect example of a personal and motivating campaign.

Wing Commander did too but to a lesser extent..

In the realm of Flight Sim campaigns, I would say US Navy Fighters probably had come the closest to making you feel like you had an objective.

you cant compare wings of glory to lo: mac. wings of glory was no flight sim, nor was strike commander or pacific strike (is that the name?) by origin. those were action flight sims with an AWESOME story. more like an action flightsim adventure. too bad noone is making those anymore... everyone jumped on the FPS train.

I agree about the Campaign's. They feel unpersonal, boring, cold. Just like like IL2. That's my biggest problem with current Flight Sim's.

Anyone remember Wings of Glory by Origin? Man, I loved the story in that game.

The campaign is great, unfortunately, this game is a buggy mess for me right now. Audio problems, TrackIR screwups, runway clipping still present and worst of all, they haven't fixed the tension in force feedback. I really think this could be a great sim, so I hope they jump on this.

I wonder if this game will fall in line behind all the other flight sims with a campaign that feels generated and unpersonal and without a story.
Flight sims really are digging their own grave only appealing to the hardcore with the pure technical content and no story
