Gone Gold - XIII

XIII is Golden is the press release, naturally enough arriving on the 13th, announcing that XIII is gold, and the cross-platform cel-shaded shooter featuring a conspiracy-laden theme and the voice talents of folks like David Duchovny and Adam West is set to launch this month. The PC and PS version will ship on November 18, with the GameCube and Xbox versions to ship on the 24th ("As an added bonus, the first 300,000 units of XIII Xbox will ship with a two-months free Xbox Live(tm) account."). Here's a bit more:
As a secret agent suffering from amnesia, players unravel clues behind their true identity, while uncovering sinister plots against themselves, the U.S. government, and the recently assassinated U.S. president. XIII features the deepest story line of any first-person shooter, and players will be immersed in the game's graphic-novel world as they decide who is friend and foe in the ultimate government conspiracy. The game's cel-shaded graphics showcase its unique visual style, which pays homage to its comic roots. XIII also features a variety of exciting gameplay modes, including stealth, all-out action, collaborative gameplay, and innovative multiplayer modes.

XIII is the first online first-person shooter for the PlayStation 2 system, and is also online for Xbox Live and the PC. The game features several innovative multiplayer modes in addition to classic Deathmatch, Team Deathmatch, and Capture the Flag modes for the PC version. The Power Up mode is a custom Deathmatch multiplayer mode exclusive to the PlayStation 2 system, and includes unique pick-ups, including "invincibility" and "invisibility." In the Hunt mode, players chase a running target throughout the map, gaining points by hitting the target. Sabotage is a team multiplayer mode exclusive to Xbox, where two teams compete to take control of different strategic points in the map. Players are able to compete against up to 16 players over LAN and eight players via the Internet. In addition to featuring these innovative multiplayer modes, the PC version also includes an exclusive map editor.

several innovative multiplayer modes

These aren't really innovative, nothing that hasn't already been done before in mods or retail product. I'm probably going to get this for the style sake if nothing else, looks like a good distraction for a few hours.

In 1939 around the time of his first appearance (Detective Comics #27). Batman's origin story has been altered many times over the years.

When was this? I was under the impression that Batman hated guns, since a gun killed his parents?

I've read the whole series (13 comics) and the storyline is just incredible, it would make one of the best "who done it" "suspense" "action" scripts for any movie.

When I saw the original Bourne Identity for the first time, that always reminded me of the comics.

Back in the day a large part of Batman's schtick was to take out gangsters with a revolver Dirty Harry style.

Yes, he's an idiot because he said a movie was too violent

Well at least Burton's film wasn't as violent as the original comic. Back in the day a large part of Batman's schtick was to take out gangsters with a revolver Dirty Harry style.

What would be AWESOME is if someone made a mod on this game using Superheroes as the theme. Imagine being able to fly and shoot stuff from your hands and crap, all the while feeling like you're in a comic book...

Since I already dropped money on Call of Duty this month I have to choose between this game and Knights of the Old Republic. I think branching out and trying a different genre would be good to do so looks like I'll pass on XIII for now.

You would know that if they followed the story as in the comics, the storyline WILL be deeper than any other FPS.

I've read the whole series (13 comics) and the storyline is just incredible, it would make one of the best "who done it" "suspense" "action" scripts for any movie.

BTW, I'm no fanboy, I had high hopes for this game but the MP was just so awfull (the whole feel of it) that I'll seriously wait and see what the customer feedback is.

XIII features the deepest story line of any first-person shooter

er, hardly.

this should say, "we are the typical pr mongs who are very overpaid and can usually found at any publishing house. we haven't actually played this game or any other game for that matter we're simply too busy having lunches on the expense account and playing mahjong on msn. but we're pretty sure what a good game this is going to be as we read it online somewhere it will revolutionise the genre, whatever genre its in again"

What about the newly released Medal of Honor: Rising Sun?

Not only that, but Tribes: Aerial Assault which was released more than a year ago

You know, I think people are allowed to change their views over many years...

As other people have said, adam west did a voice on Family Guy, and that show is about as far as you can get from original batman, and still show on regular channels.

Different features for different platforms doesn't bother me all that much.

The same release for different platforms does, though. No way can it be optomized for any of them, so it's simply subpar on all. And watered-down.

I still contend that there should be only one platform, and that's the PC. Console competition just leads to more things you need to buy more often.
